Obama Not Qualified to Control Nuclear Weapons; Can He Be President?

Posted: 30 Jul 2008 12:56 PM CDT

Nuclear Weapon Personnel Reliability Program: Cocaine History a Disqualifier
I blew a few smoke rings, remembering those years. Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it. Not smack, though… (Barack Obama, "Dreams From My Father," page 93, paperback edition. http://www.whitehousedrugpolicy.gov/streetterms/ByAlpha.asp?strTerm=B, "Blow" = "Cocaine; to inhale cocaine; to smoke marijuana; to inject heroin")

The Obama campaign at least sanctions (and may promote actively) the spread of rumors to the effect that John McCain has a neurodegenerative disease, usually by citing age as a risk factor for such diseases. Dozens of posts to this nature appear at my.barackobama.com, over which the official campaign exercises editorial control. At least one such post links to a YouTube video with background music about an old mother with silver hair in an old rocking chair. We must therefore remind our readers that cocaine users also are at higher risk for brain damage and mental deficiencies. We will then show that even pre-service cocaine use disqualifies Armed Forces personnel from access to nuclear weapons, which suggests that Barack Obama is not qualified to control weapons of mass destruction either.
Taking cocaine could cause irreversible brain damage, scientists from Edinburgh University have warned.

Tests on genetically modified mice showed that cocaine inhibited the brain by destroying a key protein responsible for learning and memory.

Abusing the highly addictive drug can lead to long-term memory loss and learning difficulties, say experts.

Many prominent individuals such as Ted Kennedy (b. 1932) and Dianne Feinstein (b. 1933, 3 years older than John McCain) are mentally capable in their seventies and even beyond. The Obama campaign and its following, however, seems to want to argue that the country should not risk the election of an "old man" like John McCain because age is a risk factor for neurodegenerative diseases. Although not every cokehead suffers permanent mental impairment from putting the white powder up his nose, Barack Obama is similarly in a higher risk category for mental disabilities. As stated above, cocaine use increases the risk of long term memory loss and learning disabilities. Per "Researchers See How Cocaine Affects the Brain,"
It's eerie to look inside the brain of a heavy cocaine user. Blood flow is sluggish and abnormal compared to the brain of a non-user. Such an abnormality may underlie memory loss, learning problems, attention deficits, and even strokes.

Furthermore, present or even past cocaine use seems to be an automatic
disqualifier under the Nuclear Weapon Personnel Reliability Program. Control of nuclear weapons is of course part of the duties of the President of the United States. If Barack Obama is not qualified to perform this aspect of the job to which he aspires, he is not qualified for the job itself.
(2) Drug Abuse

(a) See definition 15. in enclosure 2. It is not the intent of this Directive to automatically render ineligible for the PRP any individual who, before the effective date of this Directive, has disclosed pre-Service drug abuse, or who has not yet been asked to make such disclosure,
and who is currently certified for PRP duties after having been formally screened in accordance with then-existing guidance. Further recertification of such individuals for future PRP status shall be in accordance with this Directive, except that previously disclosed and considered drug abuse and pre-Service drug use not required previously to be disclosed, shall not be sole grounds for denial of recertification or for mandatory decertification.

(b) Except for the category of individuals identified in subparagraph B.2.a.(2)(a), above, or otherwise provided in this Directive, any pre-Service use, admitted or otherwise discovered, of illicit drugs such as heroin, heroin derivatives, cocaine, "crack," phencyclidine (PCP), lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), ecstasy," or other "designer" drugs,
amphetamines, barbiturates, or other narcotic drugs not prescribed by proper medical authorities, and anabolic steroids shall render an individual ineligible for admission to or retention in PRP duties. The individual shall not be certified into the program or shall be permanently decertified, and those actions shall be made a matter of permanent record.

The reference adds that prior marijuana use (to which Bill Clinton as well as Barack Obama admitted) is not an automatic disqualifier. The bottom line is, however, that prior history of cocaine use disqualifies a member of the Armed Forces from touching a nuclear launch key, or indeed any access to weapons of mass destruction. The idea of giving someone with that kind of history the authority to order the use of such weapons, or even access to the codes for launching such weapons, should therefore appall all Americans. This document from the Secretary of the Navy adds,
b. Drug Abuse. Drug abuse is a violation of the law. It demonstrates a behavior pattern or action which is reasonably indicative of a contemptuous attitude toward the law or other duly-constituted authority. Any conduct which falls within the definition of drug abuse may be grounds for disqualification or decertification.

(1) Any personnel determined to have pre-service or inservice abuse of any drug will be disqualified prior to initial assignment to a PRP billet or, if currently assigned, will be
permanently decertified except:

(a) pre-service or in-service cannabis use which was acceptably screened under previous PRP guidance will not be the sole basis for disqualification or decertification,

Again, PRP refers to the (Nuclear Weapon) Personnel Reliability Program.

Obama Campaign Site: All Senior Citizens are Senile

Posted: 30 Jul 2008 01:12 AM CDT

Given this individual's semiliterate tirade ("He should of never been president," with "of" standing in for "have,") we have to wonder whether this presumably twenty-something Obama supporter already has dementia, but we digress. This site, which is under the editorial control of the Obama campaign, clearly sanctions ageist hate speech for the purpose of attacking John McCain. The Obama campaign even sanctions propaganda at its own site and at YouTube to the effect that McCain is at higher risk for Alzheimer's Disease because he is in his early seventies.

Obama should not have gone there, noting that cokeheads also are at higher risk for brain damage and mental problems, and his own book "Dreams From My Father" describes how he got "snowed" in college.

I don't feel just because he hasn't served in the military he does't have the intelligence to stop the war in a timely manner as he stated. Hillary tried to prove the he did't have enough experience to win as the Democratic noniminee. HE PROVED HER WRONG!!!

John McCain is to old to run for anything. Once men reach a certain age they start to develop the old people's disease (lol). We have to worry about him being senile. And how do we know if the didn't torture him mentally when he was held captive and turned him against the United States. He's not for our country, just like Bush. He should of never been president in the first place,he cheated. I don't know if God knows why they left him in office or why the elected him again (cheated) to be the President. When he's out of office he should not be paid at all for the poor job that he did while he was in office. Him and his family she be made to pay back all the money he has made our country lose. He started a war that should of never happened for his own selfish reasons. Look at all our young men that have died for nothing.

Barack and Michelle Obama's Dishonest Fundraising Solicitations

Posted: 29 Jul 2008 12:02 PM CDT

Barack and Michelle Obama's personal statements deceive prospective donors

Despite at least one (and possibly more) complaints from Minnesota law enforcement agencies, the Obama campaign is still circulating E-mails that solicit donations in exchange to win an expenses-paid trip to the Democratic National Convention. Were it not for the very fine print disclaimers in the E-mails and on the donation page itself, this would very likely constitute an illegal lottery. In other words, the Obama campaign is doing the absolute minimum it thinks it needs to do to stay out of actual trouble with the law. In addition, a video by Barack Obama and an E-mail from Michelle Obama are designed to deceive supporters into thinking that they have to contribute money for a chance to win.

As reported by WorldNet Daily, the Obama campaign faced the prospect of legal trouble in Minnesota and possibly other states for running an arguably illegal lottery: donate money to Obama's campaign (payment of consideration) in exchange for a chance (element of chance) to win an expenses-paid trip to the Democratic National Convention (prize).

Doug Forsman, a special agent with Minnesota's Department of Public Safety, had confirmed the illegality of the promotion.

He gave the campaign two options, the newspaper said, to void the contest where such bans exist or to change the rules to allow people to participate without gambling any of their money.

Forsman confirmed Kendall Burman, staff counsel at Obama's Chicago headquarters, informed him the "donation," which had been a requirement earlier, would be made optional.

In other words, the Obama campaign acknowledged that it had been told about the illegality of lotteries in Minnesota, and the Obama campaign's staff counsel agreed to change the lottery to comply with the law. The campaign followed up by making only the perfunctory and minimal changes that were necessary to keep it out of actual trouble with the law, while continuing to suggest that one does indeed have to make a donation to participate.

The donation page itself says, "Watch the video and make a donation." In the video, Barack Obama himself participates in the campaign's deception of prospective donors by saying that you have to donate money to have a chance of winning the prize. The text at the top says,

If you make a donation in any amount before midnight on July 31st, you could be selected to travel to Denver for the last two days of the convention -- including the huge event at the open-air stadium on the final night.

Ten supporters from all over the country will be selected to go Backstage with Barack.

Only well down the page, and below the place where you give a donation, does it say "If you do not wish to make a donation but would like to participate in this program, you can still be selected to join Barack at the Democratic National Convention in Denver by clicking here." In other words, the page seems designed to trick people into donating money before they discover that they can enter the lottery without making a contribution. This reflects squarely on the ethics of the Obama campaign and on Barack and Michelle Obama themselves, noting that both added personal statements whose apparent intention is to deceive prospective donors.

In this E-mail, Michelle Obama says personally that one must contribute $5 or more for a chance to win a trip to the convention; in other words, the woman who wants to be First Lady is touting something that, were it not for the fine print disclaimer further down, could easily be an illegal lottery. In fact, were her words allowed to stand by themselves, without the disclaimer the campaign added, that is exactly what she would be doing.

Barack likes to tell a story about the two of us standing backstage before his speech at the 2004 Democratic Convention.

The way he tells it, he was too busy in the days before the convention to feel any pressure -- but about an hour before the speech, I could tell he was getting a little nervous.

To break the tension, right before he went out on stage I leaned in close and said, "Just don't screw it up, buddy."

We laughed. And then Barack brought the house down.

This year, the house is going to be a lot bigger. More than 75,000 people will be in Denver to be part of this important moment, and I want to tell you about an opportunity to join Barack backstage before his acceptance speech.

Ten supporters who make a donation in any amount by midnight this Thursday, July 31st, will be selected to fly to Denver, spend a couple of nights in a hotel, participate in the convention, and go Backstage with Barack. Each supporter who is selected will also get to bring a guest along to share the experience.

Make a contribution of $5 or more today and you could have your own Backstage with Barack story to tell:

https://donate.barackobama.com/backstage

Barack's speech at the convention will be a culmination of the unlikely journey that has brought all of us so far over the past 17 months.

He will call on us to come together and work for change -- not just to win this election, but to make things better for all Americans.

Seeing it in person will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I'm excited about being there, and if you make a donation of $5 or more before the deadline, you could join Barack backstage:

https://donate.barackobama.com/backstage

Thanks for everything you've done to get us here.

Michelle

Note the three elements of an illegal lottery in "Ten supporters who make a donation in any amount by midnight this Thursday, July 31st, will be selected to fly to Denver, spend a couple of nights in a hotel, participate in the convention, and go Backstage with Barack."

(1) Payment of consideration--a donation in any amount
(2) Element of chance
(3) A prize

Were it not for the fine print disclaimer at the bottom of the page, Michelle Obama would have signed her name to a solicitation for a lottery that is, per Minnesota law enforcement, illegal in that state. It could well be illegal in other states as well.

This is not the only such E-mail we received well after Minnesota law enforcement told the Obama campaign very explicitly that it could not run a lottery in that state. This one is signed by Obama's campaign manager, David Plouffe.

Barack recorded a special video invitation for you to join him at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Watch it now and make a donation of $5 or more before midnight this Thursday, July 31st, and you could go backstage with Barack:

https://donate.barackobama.com/backstage

Exactly one month from today, on the last night of the Democratic National Convention, more than 75,000 people will come together in the largest stadium in Denver to be part of history.

Barack is opening up the convention and his acceptance speech to as many people as possible. Supporters like you are responsible for building this movement and for bringing this campaign so far -- and Barack wants you to be part of this important moment.

Free tickets will be available soon, but if you make a donation in any amount this month, you could be one of 10 supporters selected to meet Barack backstage before he delivers his speech.

If you make a donation by midnight this Thursday, July 31st, you and a guest could be flown to Denver, spend a couple of nights in a hotel, participate in the convention, and then go backstage with Barack before the big event.

Watch this short video and make a donation of $5 or more today to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity:

https://donate.barackobama.com/backstage

The Democratic National Convention is going to be an exciting and important event for this movement and for our country. I hope you will be there to join us.

Thanks,

David

In summary, Barack and Michelle Obama, along with campaign manager David Plouffe, all signed their names or made public statements on video that, were it not for the minimal and perfunctory disclaimer that the campaign added because of explicit complaints from a law enforcement agency, could easily constitute solicitations for an illegal lottery. Is someone who does the absolute minimum necessary to stay out of actual trouble with the law the kind of individual we want in any position of public trust or responsibility?

If this is not bad enough, there is also a question as to whether everyone who entered a previous "Dinner with Barack" lottery had an equal chance to win.

Obama Campaign Site: "Old People Get Alzheimer's"

Posted: 28 Jul 2008 05:11 PM CDT

Barack Obama's official campaign site, over which Obama's staff exercises editorial control, seems to welcome propaganda to the effect that John McCain has Alzheimer's disease--along with jokes about Alzheimer's Disease. One such entry linked a YouTube video that plays a song about an old mother with silvery hair in an old rocking chair while citing "evidence" that McCain is senile. We might argue that any legal adult who votes for the phony smile and empty suit over McCain shows evidence of mental deterioration, but we digress. Here is a blog entry at My.BarackObama.com that will probably disappear when it appears at this site and at Free Republic, but we downloaded the entire page so screen shots will be available through Election Day. (It is standard practice for the Obama campaign to sanction postings of this nature until they become Internet-wide embarrassments, whereupon they get thrown under the bus.)

Let's pretend that McCain's right and that this was a way of bringing his age up. What exactly is it that makes it a cheap shot? Is McCain trying to tell us that he's not really frackin' old? Are we not allowed to talk about it? Because, seriously folks, it's not like this isn't an issue. Age is the one immutable* characteristic that is actually relevant. McCain's what, 71 now, right? He'll be 72 before he takes office and that means that if he gets elected and reelected he'll be 80 when he leaves office. He can't tell us his mind's going to be all there in eight years. He can't tell us it'll be all there in four years. He just can't. He can't know that. He's really old. Old people start to deteriorate. They get Alzheimer's. They get Parkinson's. They get dementia. They get just generally more forgetful and less capable. It doesn't happen to everybody. I'm sure he takes care of himself, and he's probably starting off a little sharper than most people and he can afford to be blunted a bit by age, but folks, that doesn't mean anything. My grandfather started out sharp as a tack and stayed that way till his early seventies and then went into a decline that made falling stars look lethargic. But that might not happen to McCain. I'm not saying it will or it won't because I don't know. And neither does he. And neither does America.

Just as age is a risk factor for Alzheimer's Disease, cocaine use is a risk factor for permanent brain damage. It doesn't happen to every cokehead but, if Obama's people want to stick with their "old people get Alzheimer's Disease," we can use Obama's prior cocaine use ("blow" in "Dreams From My Father") to answer them in kind and with compound interest. In fact, noting that Obama's people started this, we should finish it by using exactly this approach.Technorati Tags: , , ,

Were Obama's Lottery Winners Picked In Advance?

Posted: 20 Jul 2008 03:57 PM CDT

Is it normal to name lottery winners before the entry deadline?

We previously reported that the Obama campaign has, on at least three occasions, conducted what are allegedly illegal lotteries. The E-mail and online solicitations included:

  1. Payment of consideration, in the form of a donation of at least some money.

  2. An element of chance

  3. A prize (expenses-paid trip to have dinner with Obama or meet Obama at the Democratic National Convention

Only after Minnesota's Department of Public Safety (law enforcement) complained to the Obama campaign that it was running a potentially illegal lottery did the campaign allow people to enter the most recent one without making a donation. The change that the campaign made at its Web site was cosmetic, perfunctory, and the apparent minimum necessary to avoid trouble with the law.

Now the question arises as to whether at least one lottery picked its winners at random. An E-mail from the campaign announced a winner before the entry deadline, and a cynic might speculate as to whether all the "winners"--people who would make good photo appearances with the candidate--were picked in advance.

Note that the following was sent on July 31, before the deadline for entering the lottery in question.

Make a donation by 11:59 pm tonight, Tuesday, July 31st, and you could join us for our
second Dinner with Barack:

https://donate.barackobama.com/dinner

Dear Bill,

A couple of weeks ago I sat down to dinner with four supporters like you.

Christina, Haile, Margaret, and Michael each made a small online donation,
and we flew them across the country for some good food and good conversation.

What I enjoyed most about this dinner was the opportunity to listen to the
stories and concerns of ordinary Americans in a relaxed environment. Out on
the campaign trail, there isn't always time for that kind of interaction.

Last week we started planning our second dinner, and on Friday evening at 6:42 pm,
a woman named Dorothy Unruh of Lakewood, Colorado made a donation.

I'm pleased to announce that Dorothy will be one of my guests for the second dinner.
You could join us if you make a small donation before 11:59 pm tonight, July 31st:

https://donate.barackobama.com/dinner

Here's what Dorothy told us about herself:

"I'm a senior citizen fed up with the current state of our government.
I'm sad that our great nation has lost its stature in the eyes of the rest of the world.
I have been a registered Republican for years, but recently officially changed parties so
I can attend the Democratic caucus and help elect Senator Obama. He is like a breath of
fresh air to my husband and me."

Dorothy has never taken part in a political campaign before, but she and millions of
other voters who want change are going to be the key to Democratic victories up and down
the ballot next year.

I'm looking forward to having dinner with Dorothy, but there are still three seats left
at the table. Will you be in one of them?

If you make a donation by 11:59 pm tonight, Tuesday, July 31st, you could join us for

dinner very soon:

https://donate.barackobama.com/dinner

We'll pay for your trip and the meal -- all you need to bring is your story and
your ideas about how to make this a better country for all Americans.

Small donations from ordinary Americans have set our campaign apart and allowed us to
reject the influence of Washington lobbyists and special interest groups. Not only is
your support the key to our success, it's essential to reclaiming a government that
is of the people, by the people, and for the people.

I hope you will make a donation now and participate in this opportunity. Take ownership
of your part in this campaign and strengthen your role in our movement.

Together we can put an end to pay-for-influence politics. We can turn the page in Washington,
and it all begins with you.

Thank you for your support.

Barack Obama

Is it usual for lotteries to announce winners before the entry deadline?

It is clear that Dorothy Unruh had a four out of whatever chance of winning (assuming that she was really selected at random--if not, her chances may have been four out of four), while subsequent entrants had only a three out of whatever chance to win.

Now, here is the page to which the solicitation linked (it was still online as of July 20 2008, although the "March 31" date seems incongruous.

Note that this Web page seems to contain all the elements of a lottery:

  1. Payment of money by the entrants (note that the page does NOT say that you can enter without giving at least some money, nor does it have a link for doing so)

  2. An element of chance, assuming that winners were really picked at random

  3. A prize (dinner with Barack Obama)

Here is another such solicitation we received from the Obama campaign, and a screen shot of the page to which it linked.

Join Barack Obama for dinner:

https://donate.barackobama.com/dinnerforfive

Dear Bill,

Ever received a dinner invitation on video?

Barack Obama has recorded a brief message for you -- check it out here:

https://donate.barackobama.com/dinnerforfive

There's still one day left to be a part of Barack's Dinner for Five, and already this effort is proving exactly what kind movement we're building together.

At a time when money from Washington lobbyists and special interests is polluting the political process more than ever, the question for campaigns isn't just whether they can compete financially -- it's how they do it.

Thousands of people have given whatever they could afford -- even $5-- to be part of something big.

If you make a donation in any amount by 11:59 pm EDT tomorrow, June 13, you could be one of four people chosen to dine with Barack. In about a month, you could sit down and share your reasons for joining this campaign and your ideas for how to keep the momentum building.

When you make that donation, you will become part of a movement of Americans ready to take back the political process and make our democracy work for the people again.

Join the movement and make your donation now:

https://donate.barackobama.com/dinnerforfive

Who knows, you could find yourself representing that movement one night soon -- sitting across the table from Barack Obama.

Thank you,
David

Bill --

I'm out here in Denver, Colorado visiting the site of the Democratic National Convention, and there is excitement in the mountain air.

Folks are working hard on Barack's plan for a truly open convention. It will be a historic event, and you can be a part of it.

If you make a donation in any amount before midnight on July 31st, you could be selected to travel to Denver for the last two days of the convention, including the final event -- Barack's acceptance of the Democratic nomination for President before 75,000 people.

Ten supporters will be selected from all over the country, and each will be able to bring one guest. We'll provide airfare, accommodations, and two days of convention activities -- including a private meeting with Barack before his historic speech.

Our team shot a short video of the stadium to give you a sense of the event. Watch the video and make a donation of $25 today, and you could go Backstage with Barack:

https://donate.barackobama.com/backstage1

Supporters like you are the reason this campaign has been possible. We are thrilled that some of you will be able to celebrate what you accomplished with us in Denver.

But we have a long way to go, and Barack can't do this without you.

Thanks,

Steve

Scandals Cripple Obama Fundraising Efforts

Posted: 19 Jul 2008 12:40 PM CDT

Money dries up as scandals spread; campaign manager begs for $5 contributions to keep campaign afloat
Can you make a donation of $5 now to strengthen our movement for change?
So reads the latest pathetic appeal from Obama campaign manager David Plouffe. Even though Obama's Internet presence and network are far more sophisticated than John McCain's--remember that it played a central role in Hillary Clinton's defeat--Plouffe's E-mail shows that it is no longer raising the kind of money the campaign needs. It is quite likely that Barack Obama's own supporters are closing their checkbooks, wallets, and purses in response to the scandals that surround his campaign:

  1. Questionable fundraising methods such as Internet lotteries of questionable legality
  2. Misuse of tax exempt church resources for electioneering (Obama's campaign-related speech to the United Church of Christ's annual synod in June 2007)
  3. The campaign's sanction of misogynist, anti-Semitic, and racist hate speech at My.BarackObama.com
  4. The campaign's sanction of actual libel at My.BarackObama.com
  5. Obama's refusal to accept Federal funding of his campaign (and corresponding spending limits) after he promised to do this.
  6. The fact that Obama accepted the endorsements of Jeremiah Wright and Michael Pfleger--screenshots from BarackObama.com are available--before he rejected them.
The method in which the Obama campaign handled a complaint from Minnesota law enforcement agencies with regard to what is arguably a lottery--donate money in exchange for an expenses-paid trip to Denver to meet Barack Obama--underscores its lack of character and ethics. As reported by WorldNetDaily,

The Obama campaign followed up on this promise by making changes that are at best perfunctory, cosmetic, and minimal. It is true that the page on which one actually makes a campaign contribution says--if one looks hard enough and carefully enough--that one can enter the lottery without any donation. We received, however, an E-mail from the Obama campaign at least a week after the campaign made this promise to Minnesota's Department of Public Safety that asks for money in exchange for a chance to meet with Barack Obama, and the E-mail does NOT mention that one does not have to make the donation. In other words, it looks like the Obama campaign did the absolute minimum it had to do to stay out of actual trouble with the law. This does not speak very highly for the campaign's ethics, and the former supporters who are slamming shut their checkbooks, wallets, and purses are reacting accordingly.

The use of allegedly illegal lotteries to raise money is entirely consistent with Barack Obama's own misuse of tax exempt church resources to support his campaign. In June 2007, Obama gave a pre-written (thus showing malice aforethought) campaign related speech called "A Politics of Conscience" at the United Church of Christ's annual synod in Hartford CT. This resulted in an IRS investigation of the church, thus showing that Obama has no conscience whatsoever. The church is on record as telling Obama and his campaign ahead of time that no campaign related activity could take place at a tax exempt church event. Obama and his people are on record as understanding and agreeing to these rules. Then Obama deliberately, knowingly, and willfully wrote and delivered a speech whose campaign-related content violated these rules. He broke his word to his own church, thus showing him to be totally without honor, ethics, or character: a liar and a promise breaker.

Obama also lied about his intention to accept Federal matching campaign funds (and corresponding spending limits) once he realized that he could raise far more money through his Internet campaign machine. As his disgruntled, disillusioned, and betrayed supporters begin to cut him off, though, he is probably having third thoughts about this decision.

It has also been well established that My.BarackObama.com is under the editorial control of Obama's campaign staff, which can and does delete comments and blog entries it finds "offensive" or "disrespectful." Reams of anti-Semitic, misogynist, and even racist hate speech whose presence the campaign staff welcomed at the site has been re-posted all over the Internet, and this is doubtlessly cutting into the campaign's ability to raise money.

It has also come out that the campaign sanctions--as shown by its failure to delete the entries even after they were brought to its attention--libelous material such as false accusations of crimes against individual and corporate "persons." This is doubtlessly something with which prospective donors do not wish to be involved.

In any event, Obama's campaign is now in serious trouble, and David Plouffe's latest E-mail shows it.

I have some big news we want to share with you.

In the month of June, supporters like you helped raise $52 million. And together with the DNC, we now have nearly $72 million in the bank. That's a very strong financial position to be in.

But we remain at a massive disadvantage to our opponents.

As I mentioned in my video message earlier in the week, the McCain Campaign and the Republican National Committee finished June with nearly $100 million in the bank.

We can't stop now. It's going to take everything we've got to defeat John McCain and his allies in November.

Can you make a donation of $5 now to strengthen our movement for change?

Two months ago, Obama was eager to opt out of matching Federal campaign funding because he thought his Internet network could easily raise enough money to swamp McCain with advertising. Now the widening scandals that surround his campaign have reduced it to the equivalent of begging, "Brother, can you spare a dime?"

Our first thresome

First let me straighten out a fib I told in my first story, My First Threesome. I said we were 47, actually I am 37, and Bob is 42, I didn't want to admit Bob got me pregnant at 15, and we married at 16, and 21. I didn't want to admit I was that stupid, but I was. Someone I sent a picture of me and the boys said I sure didn't look 47, so I wanted to be honest about everything. Bob was in college, and I attended a party. I lied about my age, and had sex with Bob, my first time, and the rest is history, but now the kids are gone, and I am having the sex I never had a chance to have, all because sweet Bob wanted to see me being fucked by other men.
That first time was the last weekend in April, and the next was veterans day weekend. A few days before the weekend, the phone rang, and I heard Bob say, hi Jason. My pussy started to get wet, and I hoped he wanted to set something up with us. He did, I heard Bob say that I would have to decide, and he would have me call him. Damn right I would, in a few minutes.
I asked Bob what that was about, he said Jason wanted us to come to the college at their frat house. Well no way I was getting fucked by a couple dozen guys. Jason had told Bob that the only students there where summer school and it was a three day weekend and there would only be a few guys there. A few guys, well that got my interest., and I called Jason. He told me what he told Bob, but I asked what a few guys meant. It meant there might be eight with himself. I told him three was really hard on me so what would eight be like. Jason said his cock was the largest and the others were like Bob's cock. He would tell them they had to be sweet to me, and he wouldn't tell them we were coming until Sat. morning, that way most would surely leave. If they knew I was coming no one would leave. I said let us think about it and I would call him in the morning.
When I hung up I said damn right we are going, then I said get James, our big black vibrator and lets go to bed. We fucked for two hours while watching our video of James, John, and Jason. I had visions of being adored by eight sweet 20 year Olds, and Jason's big almost 12 inch cock.I called Jason the next morning, and told him we were coming and asked what time was the best, and how to find him. He said noon, and gave me directions. He said he could hardly wait, and I asked him their ages, 19 to 22, just right to be real horny.
Saturday finally came and we left , we would get there about noon. Finding the house was easy and we were a few minutes early, but I was so ready. Bob knocked on the door, and a fellow answered and said , I sure hope you are Jen because you are soooooo hot, what a dear, He called Jason and he came in and said invite them in dumb ass, then took me in his arms and gave me a big hug, and then hugged Bob and thanked him for coming. I asked where the rest were and were is the bed, it was upstairs with the others, I asked how many, and he told me eight including him but one was at work and would be here later. Then we went upstairs with me wondering what I had gotten us into.
The bed was a king size mattress on the floor but it was clean with clean sheets on it. The other guys were standing around looking unsure of what to do. Bob introduced us and asked if pictures and video was ok. They said Jason said if we wanted to fuck Jen that was the way it would be, so damn right it was ok. I hugged them all and felt their cocks through their pants, I swear one almost came before I let go. I said lets get undressed and began removing my clothes, they just stood there watching with their pants tenting. Jason told them to wake up and get undressed, at that point clothes began to fly. Their cocks were nice, from six to eight inches long, some fat, and some slim, but nothing compared to Jason, and he knew I loved large cocks.
I asked them to get in a circle around me, I got on my knees and was about to start blowjobs all around when I noticed Jason standing by Bob. They were naked and stroking their cocks. I told Jason to come on over, but he declined, said he was waiting for the right moment and this was the boys party, and Bob was busy videoing and taking pics.
I began sucking each cock for a minute each moving around the circle, when I sensed they were getting close I would stop. After fifteen minutes of this and more precum than you can imagine one asked when the fucking could start. He looked so pitiful, and I was afraid his nuts would bust. So I said right now but a rule we have is Bob always get first crack at my crack, we like to get my pussy nice and slick that way your cocks will slide in so much easier
. I went to the mattress and got on my knees. Bob came over and slipped his cock in my pussy and began fucking me. I knew this was what the others would feel like it and it was good. I watched the boys faces, and they were in a trance again, I don't think they believed they were actually going to fuck someone, much less all of them fucking the same lady, and I am a lady. After several minutes Bob began filling my pussy, then he said look at this guys, and he pulled out, spread some cum on my ass hole and pushed all the way in, they all said can we do that, and Bob said ask Jen.
Bob and I had found out the first time he fucked my ass that it was messy and we didn't like it. He said he read somewhere that the girls on the videos took a fleet enema before a video, I didn't know then how much he did read on the INTERNET, so we began doing that and I had used one before we left this morning because I wanted some ass fucking and DP.
I asked the boys to line up behind Bob and wait their turn, Bob fucked my ass until his cock began bending. Then he pulled out and said next. The first boy asked if he could fuck my ass but I told him after everyone had fucked my pussy we would see. He began fucking me very fast and didn't last but a couple of minutes, but he thought he had done good., everyone had the same reaction, they were so horny, and hot that the longest anyone lasted was five minutes.
I had asked that after each one fucked me they would come around to my head and let me suck their cocks, I hoped when they were hard again they would last longer, and it worked. We began on the second round, and I gave permission to fuck my ass, They loved that, and I asked them to let me suck their cocks after they finished. They said that was nasty, but I explained about the enema, and they were OK with that.
When the last one had finished I asked if they had every double poled, they asked what that was and I showed them. I had one lay down and I got over him and put his cock in and laid down on top of him, them I put my hands back and spread my ass cheeks and asked it they had an idea. Jason told them to someone please put your cock in her ass. Oh the light came on and we had a great time doing that. The only way it could have been better is if the cocks were larger.
After they had all had a chance to DP I asked if Jason was ready to give these boys a lesson, He said he wanted to save the biggest for the last so I would be satisfied when I left, I said that would be you, and he told me maybe not. I laid on my back with a pillow under my ass, but that made my back hurt so they got some more pillows and put them under my back and head, then Jason pushed his cock all the way to his balls, all twelve inches, I was in heaven and asked the boys to suck my breast and rub my clit, I had to show them how to rub my clit, while Jason fucked me hard and long.
The thought came back, what did he mean by maybe not, I asked and one of the boys said when Hoss got off work he would be here and could I guess why he was called Hoss. I asked Jason if this was true and when would he be here. Jason asked if I was excited and I was, then I began to wonder how big it had to be to be called Hoss, I asked Jason if he was bigger than he was, and he said yes. I asked how much bigger and he said wait and see.
I wondered when he would get here and someone said that after what Jason had told them this morning about me, he would probably get off early and if he did he could be here any minute. I asked what Jason had said. They said he had told them I was loving, beautiful, sexy, sweet, and loved big cock, which made Hoss real happy because no one at college would let him fuck them.
I began to worry then, and said so. Jason said not to worry, Hoss was very gentle. I asked Jason if he meant all those nice things. He said indeed he did, I hugged him real hard locked my heals behind his ass and really began to fuck him hard. In a few minutes I heard the door open down stairs, and he asked if Jen was here. They yelled I was and I was wonderful, and come on up.
I looked over Jason's shoulder and nearly fainted, there was the largest black man I had ever seen without an ounce of fat on him. Jason looked over at him and said this is Jen and that is Bob, Jen's husband. Hoss went over and shook Bob's hand and thanked him for coming, and then said to me. Miss Jen, you are sure pretty, and I hope I can make love to you. I thought, Make love, that is too sweet, and told him we would try real hard, all the while Jason was fucking me for all he was worth.
I asked him to undress and began to fuck back at Jason hoping he would finish quick, I squeezed his cock real hard with my pussy, Bob says I have the strongest pussy in the world. It worked, and I felt Jasons cum pumping into me. With small cocks its hard to feel them cum because there is so much room but with a large cock filling me up the cum has to expand my pussy, and I can really feel it.
Jason pulled out and got out of the way. I looked at Hoss and was amazed and wondered if I could really fuck him. It was semi hard and hung almost to his knee. I gasped, and asked how long it was? Hoss said twenty inches, I asked if anyone had a yard stick, and they produced one. I measured from the top at his pubic bone and it was 18 inches, and from the bottom to his sack, it was 20 inches, it was funny they always took the longest measurement , and they can't shove their nuts up a pussy although some try. I asked Hoss to come over and let me hold it, I looked up at his gentle face and asked what his real name was, it was Tony, so I said Tony I hope this works. I stroked his cock and it grew and grew, it probably weighed ten pounds.
I asked how he thought we might start. He suggested me getting on top, that way I could control how much I wanted, I wanted all of it, but that was impossible. He lay down and I got over him, but I am so short that when I sat on his thighs, his cock was laying on my tits, I would have to stand over him for it to touch my pussy.
We saw that wasn't going to work so I got on my knees and told him to push it in but be careful. He said I will Miss Jen, he was so sweet. When he began to push it in very slowly, I began to cum, he only had a couple of inches in and I couldn't stop cumming, One of the boys asked what was wrong with me, I was shaking all over, Bob said I was cumming, and I did that. I shook the entire time. We worked at it for thirty minutes and Bob said he probably had fourteen inches in, and there was at least four more to go.
The boys asked where it was going and Bob told them to come over and feel my stomach, one said it was almost up to my tittes. I swear I could not stop cumming, and I could only grunt when someone asked me anything. Tony was breathing hard and asked if he could start really fucking me now, He had been so gentle I was afraid he wasn't getting much enjoyment out of this, so I said go ahead but be careful. He began to pull almost all the way out with just the head left in then go at it again.
This went on for a long time, with the boys and Bob giving a running commentary of what it looked like, I would see later when we got home and looked at the video. Tony said he had never fucked a woman like this, they wouldn't let him, I said they didn't know what they were missing. After another twenty minutes of Tony giving it all he could he yelled he was cumming, and nearly blew me off his cock, I have never felt anything like it. His cum was running down my legs, and they said look at Jen shake. When it was over Tony pulled out and the rest poured out. He lay beside me and said he would never forget me. I told him he was right, and to give Bob his cell phone number. He kissed and hugged me and said he loved me so much.
I took a shower and kissed everyone and thanked Jason for everything. Jason told me a girl friend of his really wanted to meet me, and he would give us a call and find out when we could meet again.
On the way home I asked Bob if he got Tony's cell number, He had and said that Tony has been going into monster cock chat room and got to know a fellow that was 24, and had the same problem he had, no one would let him fuck them. His name was Juan, a Mexican, which was OK, but I would have to email him and get to know him, and then talk to him on the phone. If anyone ever told me they wanted to fuck my brains out I would hang up. Bob said Tony would arrange that, I told him about Jason and the girl friend. Bob said it was funny how every adventure began another. I'll let you know how it works out if it does. By the way, I cut my hair, too much cum in it, it was a mess the first time. Send me a email if you like my story, and I will send you a pic., I love writing the stories, its like its happening again, and then Bob really fucks me good. Love Jen, email jenwsexy@aol.com my instant messenger screen name is the same as the email.

BETTER COMBUSTION FOR THE MIND

To really grasp the implications and possibilities here, we must first clean the carbon deposits out of our minds. Using waterfuel is an approach to our cars and fuel that requires more participation from us. The whole water energy system consists of physical components PLUS your mind and attitudes about fuel consumption. To really optimize your waterfuel system, you will also be using fuel warmer, some Kiker wires to improve the spark, Xylene to add to your gasoline, a low-friction synthetic motor oil, a couple bottles of fuel treatment to clean carbon deposits from old unburned fuel out of your engine, a MAP sensor enhancer to keep the car computer from over-correcting the fuel mix back to over-rich, tires that are always fully inflated, and a real-time mileage tracker so that you won't have to use an entire tank of gas to know what mileage you are getting.
Perhaps the most important thing is this:
Trust yourself.
When you use an "alternative" fuel-efficiency system, you are an experimenter who is going against the herd and chances are, you are going to get some flack. Don't be fooled by self-appointed "experts" who don't have hands-on experience and say it can't be done. When they laugh or frown or condescend and say, "It's scientifically impossible," well, first of all, you know they are not "true scientists" (so why are they acting like they know what "scientifically" means?). Ask them if they have ever tried it themselves. You will find they have not. Further discussion might be fruitless, but you can try. Tell them to just wait and see. See for yourself. Don't wait ten years for big industry to do it because they don't want to GIVE you anything--they are only thinking about what they can GET from you while they continue making empty promises.

Jesse Jackson Can't Castrate Barack Obama

Posted: 18 Jul 2008 01:01 PM CDT

Q: Why can't Jesse Jackson cut off Barack Obama's testicles? ("I'd like to cut his nuts off" was the actual quote.)
A: Michelle Obama keeps them in her pocket. That is why he lacked the cojones to:

(1) Resign from the racist church to which he and his wife belonged for 20 years, until Jeremiah Wright became such a political embarrassment that he had no choice. (It would not be surprising if Michelle Obama, whose college thesis espoused a primary obligation to the Black community, played a role in her husband's decision to join or remain in this church.)

(2) Reject the endorsement of Louis Farrakhan until Tim Russert, who was joined in his effort by Hillary Clinton, cornered him like a rat during a nationally televised debate.

(3) Keep his promise to accept Federal election funding and corresponding spending limits.

(4) Refuse MoveOn.org's endorsement after MoveOn.org published a defamatory insult to General David Petraeus.

(5) Debate John McCain "any time, and anywhere."

Jenhy cum shot

Jenny threw the covers off her hot body and looked at the clock sleepily. It was 5:45 AM.Ah fuck this, she thought to herself getting out of bed yawned. She pulled off her sports bra and g-string, grabbed her towel and walked out to the landing naked. She didnt care her father wakes up at 3 and goes to work at 5. During that 2 hour period he goes onto their family computer and watches porn and chat with girls, and jacking off to pics of them before he goes to work. Jenny knew this cuz she caught him doing it once when she couldnt sleep a few years ago. She turned the shower on and let the cold water run as she admired her young but sexy body. At the age of 14 she had a fairly sexy body with 34ds and her tits were fairly big and round. Jenny slowly reached up and caressed her nipples making them hard. After she showered she went in her room turned her computer on, and grabbed a pair of matching baby blue bra and thongs. She put them on and looked at the computer one of her friends she just met was on.
Hotbigirl: Hi there Jenny
Jenny101: Hi thereJamie
Hotbigirl: want a ride 2 school my moms willing
Jenny101: sure where r u guys
Hotbigirl: outside
Jenny101: gimme bout 5 min Ill be down
Hotbigirl: kk luv u :P
Jenny logged off hurriedly put on a tight shirt and pants. She grabbed her backpack and lunch down stairs wrote a note to her mom and left the house. Outside the sun was just rising and the wind made Jenny shiver, she felt her nipples getting hard and stiff. She saw Jamie and her sisters red porch.
So how did you get to IM me? Jenny asked getting into the car. Jamie waved her moms laptop at her and grinned.
fucking rich slut, she said laughing. The three girls laughed and Stephanie drove off toward their high school. During the ride Jamie kept glancing back at Jenny. She was getting wetter as her friend grew more accustomed to wearing tight cloths. She found herself eyes wondering down to look at her 34d breasts and kept wondering how she tasted. Jenny caught her friend eyeing her but didnt care she had a little crush on her friend but didnt know if she had the same. When Stephanie parked the car the school wasnt open yet. They looked at the car and saw it was only 7:45. School doesnt open till 8:45.
Well we got here earlier then usual, Stephanie called. The girl grinned as Jenny knew what she had in mind. The girls unbuttoned their pants and pulled them down to the ankle with their panties. Jenny slowly started to play with her pussy and found her clit soon enough and mustered a small moan of pleasure. By habit Jennys free hand rose up to her tits and played with them. Jamie pulled her skirt off and slowly ran a finger down to her pussy lips and shoved a finger in slowly moaning as she did for it was still sensitive from being eaten by Stephanie earlier before they picked Jenny up. She reached over and caressed her sisters 36d breasts. Stephanie the oldest of the three girls was the most experienced as she fingered her clit hopping to get a fast yet mind blowing orgasm. She feel a young tender hand reaching for her left breast she opens her eyes and see her sister playing with themCan you help me? Steph asked. Jamie nodded unbuckled her belt as steph moved her chair back so her younger sister can have room. When Jamie was under Steph she licked her lips and slowly played with her clit. Steph moaned and began to squirm and twitch under her sisters hands.
STOP TEASING ME! she yelled. Jamie smiled a slutty smile and gently licked her sisters pussy. Her juice tasted so good she was hooked. She shoved her face in and started lapping it like a dog. Steph moaned even louderAHHH! YES EAT MY CLIT SIS! while the sister had their fun Jenny was bout to cum. She fucked herself harder and faster until she felt stiff and she cried out. As the orgasm subsided she collapsed onto the seat as she watched her best friend eat her sister who now was yelling and squirming so much.
YES! YES! THATS IT EAT MY CLIT! IM CUMMING! and with a final twitch she went stiff as her juice sprayed her sister. When her orgasm died down she was panting as her 36d were bouncing from her heavy breathing.
god.you slutyou.your getting better at.this! she exclaimed through each breath. Jamie smiled and said.
My turn make me cum too sis! Steph shook her head I need to rest. Jamie looked sad and Jenny took her courage to speak.
Ill try, she said in a soft voice. Jamie turned and saw her friends wet little cunt. She nodded and crawled to the back and spread her legs open when she was on her back and comfortable. Jenny lowered her head and licked her friends pussy.
oh! Jamie said. Jenny stopped.
sorry I knew I was bad, she said pulling back.no, no you just touched my clit keep going at it. Jenny hesitated for a second then lowered her head again and licked the clit again. Jamie moaned this time and grabbed her friends head shoving it in. Jenny was soon hooked and licked like crazy. In five minutes Jamie was screaming IM CUMMING and squirted all over the car but mostly into her friends mouth.
God that.was hot! Jenny said. Jamie smiled.
youre a little good licker too! Jenny smiled.
I want to try too!
I cant hun I need to catch my breath. Jenny looked at Steph who nodded. Jenny smiled and sat where Jamie sat during the ride and pushed her chair back and down a bit. Jenny got in between her legs and looked at her wet little cunt. She smiled and shoved a finger feeling how wet and tight she was. Jenny moaned as she grabbed a tit and began to play with it.
ah god dontdont stop! she whispered. Steph smiled and put second, third finger into her and finger fucked her.
AHHH IM..IM CUMMING! she yelled as a wave of pleasure washed over her but Steph didnt stop and another wave hit her. She came five times before Steph stopped. It took Jenny 5 more min to calmdown.
GOD..THAT.THAT WASTHE BEST! she said warily. CACAN WE DO..IT AGAIN?
some other time baby, people are getting here as the road was being filled up they quickly got dressed and pretended to listen to music. Jenny smiled to herself and new this was a start of a great life.

Scandals Undermine Obama Fundraising

Posted: 17 Jul 2008 02:02 PM CDT

Internet lotteries, misuse of tax exempt church resources, and campaign-sanctioned hate speech cut into Obama fundraising

Two or three months ago, Republicans' biggest fear was that Obama's sophisticated Internet network would raise enough money to overwhelm McCain with limitless funds for advertising. Barack Obama believed this as well, as shown by his decision to reject Federal funding (and spending limits) for his campaign.

The following E-mail from David Plouffe now reports, however, that McCain's admittedly more primitive fundraising system is outperforming Obama's system. It also suggests that disgruntled Obama supporters are closing their wallets and purses to further solicitations. Potential explanations include spreading scandals about Obama's methods of raising money or its equivalent–including Internet lotteries of questionable legality along with misuse of tax exempt church resources–and his campaign's sanction of anti-Semitic, misogynist, and racist hate speech along with actual libel at My.BarackObama.com.

Can you make a donation of $5 now to strengthen our movement for change?

https://donate.barackobama.com/junenumbers

I know this isn't the first time we've asked you for financial support, and it won't be the last.

We have developed a strategy — a very aggressive strategy — that will only work if our millions of supporters continue to contribute their time and their money.

That strategy will work, and it has to. The stakes are too high and the need for change too great.

But victory is only possible with your continued help.

We can't do this without you.

Thanks,

David

David Plouffe
Campaign Manager
Obama for America

Read carefully. Barack Obama's sophisticated Internet campaign was, until this summer, raising what seemed like limitless funds. Now, however, McCain and the RNC actually have more money in the bank than the Obama campaign. Furthermore, Mr. Plouffe must now beg for five dollar contributions because many of Obama's supporters are wising up to the campaign's questionable fundraising methods, along with its sanction of racism, anti-Semitism, and even libel.

We reported previously that Minnesota law enforcement officials complained to the Obama campaign about its use of an arguably illegal Internet lottery to raise money for the campaign. Not only that, the correction (allowing people to enter a drawing for an expenses-paid trip to the Democratic National Convention without donating money to the Obama campaign) that the campaign promised to Minnesota's authorities was at best cosmetic and perfunctory. The campaign is still sending out highly deceptive E-mails that contain all the elements of a lottery.

  1. Payment of consideration (a donation of at least five dollars to the Obama campaign). Only when one looks at the donation page itself, and one has to look rather carefully, does one discover that one can enter the drawing without payment.
  2. Element of chance: ten lucky winners will get an expenses-paid trip to Denver to meet Barack Obama.
  3. A prize: the aforementioned expenses-paid trip

This is not the first such solicitation we have seen from the Obama camp, and previous ones required a donation for a chance to win a dinner with Barack Obama. It is quite possible (not legal advice, we are not lawyers) that these were in fact illegal lotteries that should be reported to the Federal Election Commission. As a matter of fact, we still have them on file; this one is from July 31 2007.

Last week we started planning our second dinner, and on Friday evening at 6:42 pm, a woman named Dorothy Unruh of Lakewood, Colorado made a donation.

I'm pleased to announce that Dorothy will be one of my guests for the second dinner. You could join us if you make a small donation before 11:59 pm tonight, July 31st:

It is also a matter of record that, in June 2007, Obama misused the United Church of Christ's tax exempt resources by giving a speech with campaign-related content at the church's annual synod in Hartford CT. Obama's knowing and willful–because the church told his campaign the rules in advance, and he and his people indicated understanding and agreement–misuse of the church's tax exempt resources resulted in an Internal Revenue Service investigation of the church. The IRS concluded, and rightly so in our opinion, that the church did everything possible to comply with its tax exemption. The United Church of Christ should not be held responsible for Obama's betrayal of its trust.

There is finally the matter of anti-Semitic (e.g. "Zionist Thought Police" and "Jewish Lobby"), racist (Black Clinton supporters are "House N*****s" and George Bush is a "honky"), misogynist ("Hillary Clinton is a b****" and an assertion that Clinton shows that women are not qualified to hold public office) and ageist hate speech at My.BarackObama.com. To the hate speech may be added a wish that President Bush had been assassinated, and another sentiment to the effect that John McCain is an "old man" who should "pay a well-deserved visit to the undertaker." My.BarackObama.com is also an overflowing sewer of actual libel in the form of false accusations of crimes that are directed at identifiable individual and corporate "persons."

Contrary to the disclaimer that the Obama campaign does not endorse or approve My.Barackobama.com's content, the campaign exercises editorial control over the site by deleting and banning content it finds "objectionable" or "disrespectful." The campaign must therefore sanction (tolerate, if not actually endorse) the hate speech, wishes for the deaths of public figures like Bush and McCain, and actual libel. It therefore comes as no surprise that Barack Obama's own supporters are waking up to his and his campaign's "ethical challenges" and are slamming shut their checkbooks, wallets, and purses in response to David Plouffe's appeals.

Etiquette Rule #10: Avoid Staring at Others

Take a Picture, It'll Last LongerOur moms taught us to be flattered when someone notices us, and they also taught us that its not polite to stare. Everyone partakes in a little gratuitous people-watching to help pass the time, and, granted, it can be hard to ignore certain commuter spectacles (ER #6). If you have a tendency to be a glare-aholic, consider keeping your eyes pointed in the direction of your lap or the floor. Feel free to look up and take it all in, but keep your eyes moving and never pause to lock in on any one passenger. Got busted mid-fix? Shoot over a kind smile before quickly averting your eyes. And if you simply know you can't resist the urge to ogle, be sure to hide behind undercover devices like a newspaper or your trusty sunglasses. If you happen to be someones eye pudding, it surely prompts paranoid thoughts but rest assured that the peeper most likely left their book at home or is cruising without their conversational compadre - so dont take it personally. Let this be a reminder that classic pearls of wisdom from our moms still apply in modern day mass transit.
Muni Manner: To prevent fellow passengers from feeling uncomfortable, keep your stare in check. Its the safe and courteous thing to do.

Mystery in My Closet.

Well one of the benefits of "clearing the clutter" of my closet has already appeared. I found a shopping bag full of old black and white photographs that a friend gave me years ago. Just WHY I have NO recollection of the images is bizarre. They are beautifully shot and well developed. The photographer must of been a war correspondent stationed in the South Pacific. There are photos of Hawaii, Japan, California, some Europe and New York City. I have over 200 of them. From what I can figure out the photographer's name is R.Raffius and was from New York. The only info I can find out thus far about him is that the Berkeley Museum in California has some of his work. I am showing you just a smattering. Also in the bag are beautiful vintage postcards from all over the world. Everything is in excellent condition. What an interesting life this guy had. If anyone out there knows anything about this photographer I would love to hear about it.

Obama Campaign Site: "A Honky Named George [Bush]"

Obama Campaign Sanctions Racist Hate Speech

Contrary to the disclaimer "Content on blogs in My.BarackObama represents the opinions of community members and in no way should be interpreted as endorsed or approved by the campaign," the Obama campaign exercises editorial control over the site by routinely deleting entries and comments it finds "objectionable" or "disrespectful." The racist pejorative "honky" is apparently not objectionable or disrespectful, like Michael Pfleger's "There were a whole lot of white people crying."

Edit

Illinois Senator Barack Obama, candidate for the Democratic nomination for president, screwed-up in a stump speech today when he said American soldiers who died in Iraq "wasted" their lives. This is his quote: "We ended up launching a war that should have never been authorized and should have never been waged and to which we have now spent $400 billion and has seen over 3,000 lives of the bravest young Americans wasted."

No, Dave, he didn't fcuk up. He told the TRUTH about a failed American foreign policy, FORETOLD by how many pre-invasion intel reports and analysis? The real criminal who fcuk up is a honky named George. He's the guy who 'wasted' lives.

Imagine what people would say, and rightly so, if someone applied the N word to a Black politician they disliked. Barack Obama's official campaign, however, sanctions corresponding racist hate speech at a site over which it exercises editorial control and supervision.

The Start-Up Trader - Setting a Stop Loss.

Posted: 12 Jul 2008 09:55 PM CDT

The golden rule of trading is: "Keep your losses small and let your profits run." Stop losses provide a sign that it is time to exit your position as the trade is no longer co-operating with your initial view.

Watching your hard-earned capital disappear down the drain is never a pleasant experience. Most people actually quit trading after their first four or five losses. That's why this is a game for grown-ups with a high level of emotional maturity. As long as the lessons learned from a losing trade outweigh the emotional torment, it's likely that you will stick around long enough to learn how to trade with skill.

Setting a stop loss is an imperfect science. It is in fact one of the most frustrating areas of trading.

There are primarily three types of stop losses:

1. Initial stops
2. Break even stops
3. Trailing stops

Initial Stops

An initial stop is designed to protect your capital. Despite all of our efforts in the analysis component of trading, most traders find that they only make winning trades less than 50% of the time. Even though this sounds discouraging at first, it is the adage of keeping your losses small and manageable, and letting your profits run that will ultimately lead to the possibility of extracting great profits from the markets. If you enter a trade and almost immediately the darned thing heads downward—then you need to exit. Your initial stop loss will help to prevent your equity from washing away.

You may also need to consider a 'time stop'. Consider exiting your position if the share hasn't cooperated with your initial view within a particular time frame (for example five days).

Break even Stops

A break even stop will help lock in a no-loss trade. This type of stop is implemented once a trade has begun to co-operate and there is now little threat of your initial stop being hit. It's always a great feeling when you can move your stop up to cover the costs of your transaction. At least when you’ve moved your stop to break even, there’s a chance that you will end up with a profitable trade. The goal transforms from protecting your equity to protecting your profits.

Trailing Stops

Once the share has trended strongly in the expected direction, you can follow the trend by moving your stop upwards. This will result in you exiting the trade with a profit in your account. Many people don't set a trailing stop and watch their share spiral skywards to an amazing level, but only exit their trade when they have incurred a loss. Learn to protect your profits as well as protecting your initial capital and you’ll be well on the way to trading profitably.

Choose a technique that you feel will suit your trading plan and your personality. Commit to a method and follow it. Write it down in your trading diary. We’ll discuss these methods in more detail in up and coming newsletters. Maximise your chances of success by considering these concepts before you make your next trade.

Jobs Down But IMF Sees Good Signs.

Posted: 12 Jul 2008 09:43 PM CDT

Australian employment kicked up by an unexpectedly higher in June, surprising markets and economists. But it’s not going to last.

With the likes of Southern Pacific Tyres and Insurance Australia already revealing plans to scrap 1200 jobs over the rest of the year, and hundreds of jobs to be cut at Qantas, employment is going to come under renewed pressure.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics reported that an extra 29,800 jobs were created last month, compared to the market forecast of just 10,000 and the near 20,000 drop in May (which now looks like 25,600 after revisions. It was originally around 19,700 in the first report last month).

In fact the net addition to the jobs market was less than 4,000 or so after taking account of the larger fall in May. That is not going to stampede the horses at the RBA.

Four extra thousand jobs over two months isn’t a big worry: it’s almost ’statistical noise’. Seeing employment is a ‘lagging’ indicator, it was probably more a reflection of what was happening several months earlier.

But economists point out that 44,000 jobs were created in the June quarter, compared to an average 74,000 a quarter in the past two years: that’s clearly a slowing in job creation and is what the RBA will focus on.

The RBA referred to the May job losses in its statement after its board meeting on July 1. They won’t get a mention next month.

The ABS said full-time employment increased by 24,000 to 7,664,600 and part-time employment increased by 5,800 to 3,051,100 while unemployment fell 2,800 to 473,800 people. That saw the unemployment rate eased to 4.2% from, 4.3% in May.

The news won’t change the Reserve Bank’s current stance of not doing anything with interest rates, but it’s another oddity to go with the sharper than expected 0.7% rise in retail sales in May.

Both sets of figures contradict other surveys like the consumer and business confidence surveys out this week which showed multi-year lows, and three performance surveys for services, manufacturing and construction, which showed a contraction last month.

Insurance Australia announced Wednesday it would cut 600 jobs, or about 5% of its local workforce, to help lower annual costs by $130 million. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., the US tyre maker, said last month it will close its South Pacific Tyres factor in Melbourne factory and shed 600 workers. Qantas has warned that jobs will go as it downsizes in coming months, cutting routes and ending services permanent. At least six big jets won’t be needed, and that estimate could climb.

The news came as the stock market seemed to steady after a sharp opening loss after Wall’s Street’s nasty 2% fall across the board, with eh key Standard & Poor’s 500 index dropping into bear territory, joining the Dow, Nasdaq, our market and others.

The major indices finished down around 1.4% yesterday after being down 1.6% at one stage. It wasn’t a convincing end to the day’s trading.

The latest jobs figures were released as the latest assessment of the Australian economy was also made public by the International Monetary Fund.

In it, the Fund the made the usual warning about the need for the RBA to be ready to tackle inflation, but seeing as how the bank has moved to lift rates before most, if not all major central banks around the world, that seems to be a bit ho hum.

“Sound macroeconomic policies and structural reforms have delivered a prolonged expansion, but recently the economy’s productive capacity has become increasingly stretched,” The IMF said at the start of its commentary, which seems a lot like it came from a recent Reserve Bank statement or three.

“The commodity driven boom has pushed up against capacity constraints, with unemployment falling to the lowest rate since the mid-1970s and capacity utilization rising to historic highs.

“As inflation accelerated over the past year, the RBA appropriately tightened monetary policy, and fiscal policy in the latest budget is providing needed support.

“The global financial turmoil that emerged in mid-2007 and the extraordinary jump in Australia’s commodity export prices in recent months present additional challenges.

“Underlying inflation is the highest it has been since the introduction of inflation targeting in the early 1990s, and monetary and fiscal policy will need to focus on reducing inflation,” The IMF said in a comment that sort of states the obvious.

But the organisation did make one comment that many Australian investors continue to ignore.

“”The global financial turmoil has illustrated the resilience of Australia’s financial system and highlighted the role of the sound macroeconomic policy framework, the flexible economy, and the importance of structural reform.”

In other words the IMF reckons the Australian economy and financial system is strong enough, and sound enough to withstand the continuing pressures from the credit crunch. It’s a comment worth remembering, especially as we look at the damage being done in Britain and the US to their financial systems and economies.

On the outlook for the economy, the IMF again seems to be quoting from the RBA:

“We share the authorities’ view that activity is beginning to slow as required to reduce inflation.

“Growth in real domestic demand has begun to ease with the rise in debt-service costs, higher energy and food prices, and a decline in confidence.

“However, the jump in commodity prices and cuts in personal income taxes will provide support for economic activity.

“Our baseline forecast is that real GDP growth will decline below trend for the next two years, easing domestic capacity constraints and returning CPI inflation back within the target band over the next two to three years.

“Slowing domestic demand and higher terms of trade should narrow the current account deficit.

"The outlook is more uncertain than usual because of large countervailing forces. In our view, the balance of risk to growth is tilted toward the upside, stemming from the recent jump in commodity prices, sizable immigration flows, and the increase in state infrastructure spending.

“These factors could offset the impact of weaker consumer and business confidence and support domestic demand.

“On inflation, the risks are clearly on the upside. Further increases in energy prices are in the pipeline and capacity constraints, especially in the mining and housing sectors, could push wage and CPI inflation higher than envisaged.

“On the downside, a global slump could weaken export demand, and further international financial turmoil could tighten credit conditions and increase banks’ funding costs. In addition, farm output may not rebound from the drought as expected.”

“The highest underlying inflation in more than a decade presents a significant challenge. A firm monetary policy stance is essential for keeping medium-term inflation expectations well anchored.

“The risk that wage inflation will rise further if CPI inflation persists at current levels calls for the RBA to maintain a tight policy stance until it is clear that inflation will abate. Reducing inflation back within the target range will require a significant easing in domestic demand growth.

“With the risks to inflation on the upside, the RBA should be prepared to tighten quickly if leading indicators suggest that domestic demand will not slow as expected or the outlook for inflation deteriorates.

“The existing inflation-targeting framework is appropriate. The benefits of the framework are illustrated clearly when there are large shocks to inflation.

“Despite the pickup in short-term inflation expectations, the absence to date of a notable acceleration in wage inflation demonstrates that the RBA’s inflation target has helped to anchor medium-term inflation expectations.

“The flexible exchange rate has been helpful for monetary policy. The appreciation in recent years, driven by higher terms of trade and interest rate differentials, has contained inflation by reducing import prices and lowering demand for domestic resources.

“We estimate that the currency is above its long-run equilibrium level, reflecting positive interest rate differentials that have attracted capital inflows.

“Over time, the currency is expected to fall back toward equilibrium as the RBA reduces the cash rate once inflation moderates.

“However, with a portion of the improvement in the terms of trade likely to be permanent, the currency is expected to remain above its average for the last ten years.

“In recent years, the build-up in foreign debt, especially short-term debt, has increased external vulnerability. Mitigating factors include the limited currency risk associated with the foreign debt, low public sector debt, the healthy banking system, and the sound macroeconomic policy and financial supervision frameworks.

“Australia’s current account deficits largely reflect high investment rather than low saving, and should be sustainable as long as investment leads to growth in export capacity”.

“The soundness of Australia’s banks was demonstrated during the recent global financial turmoil.

“Since banks had minimal exposure to sub-prime assets, the main impact of the crisis was a sharp increase in funding costs.

“Although the major banks were able to maintain access to offshore markets, the turmoil highlighted financial institutions’ vulnerability to rollover risks arising from short-term wholesale funding.

“Some of the smaller financial institutions that relied more heavily on capital markets, particularly securitization, for funding were more affected than institutions that had sizable deposit bases.

“Nevertheless, banks remain profitable and well capitalized, and asset quality is high by international standards, despite a marginal increase in non-performing loans.

“It is encouraging that banks are drawing lessons from the global turmoil, and are increasing liquidity as well as lengthening the maturity of their funding and diversifying the sources.

“Our analysis using extreme stress test scenarios applied to the large banks suggests that they would remain resilient if there were a jump in funding costs or a sharp increase in mortgage loan defaults.”

The Scratching Post Saturday Night - $10K in 3 days!!!!

Posted: 12 Jul 2008 07:29 PM CDT

Lovely and gracious Conflucians, Carol, aka Marilyn Monroe’s TWIN sister and resident Conflucian Fundraiser Master, has worked her be-yoo-tiful self throughout her July 4th vaction in LA to raise funds for Just Say No Deal’s $5 Bux & $50 T-shirt drive. Click on the coffee cup & T-shirt on the right hand column to donate!

UPDATE: The Confluence RAISED $10,000.00 in 3 days to pay down Hillary’s Debt!  Click at the jump for the Haircut!  The Monet of Mean has depicted Carol (aka Marilyn’s TWIN sister) giving our Madame Speaker a trim for just in time for her Sunday Service (h/t Fuzzybear!).  Rico will be serving complimentary Dom Perignon to celebrate the occasion!

As always, the now tuxed-out Rico will serve you Pink PUMAs and Mountain Lion Martinis.  Flo in her lovely Givenchy gown will be glad to show her Karate skills to any Smieglys that decide to drop in uninvited, as well as hold some of those words we say when we stub our toe against the coffee table.

We are also holding any trivia games you’d like to enjoy.  Angie the Seinfeld Trivia queen rocked the Friday Fundraising Fest last night.  So the floor is yours as this will operate as an open thread.

For the more studious minded, here’s an article that made my ladylike dispostion disappear, by Liz Sidoti at the AP:  Analysis: Obama revels in contrasts with McCain

Even so, a seemingly unfazed Obama tore through the week with McCain in his sights, giving the impression that he’s becoming at ease with his newfound role, and, perhaps, running for president on the whole. At times, he came across witty and hip, relaxed and confident, and much more comfortable than he was during the heat of the primaries.

Perhaps it’s because there’s now a measure of clarity in the race, with an opponent from the other camp with a completely different take on the issues. Perhaps it’s because polls show Obama slightly ahead while McCain has seemed unable to lay a glove on him. Perhaps it’s because the campaign days are lighter — at least for now.

Perhaps Liz never heard of PUMA.

He’s Just Not That Into You: A Play In One Hopeless Act.

Posted: 12 Jul 2008 12:38 PM CDT

THE SCENE: The bottom of a church basement, the place of many an AA meeting. Coffee cups, cigarette butts and cookie crumbs are strewn everywhere. A long cafeteria-style table is at the front of the room, with a podium next to it. Seated at the table are MARKOS MOULITSAS, CHRIS BOWERS, ARMANDO LLORENS (BIG TENT DEMOCRAT), JOHN ARAVOSIS, ANDREW SULLIVAN and ARIANNA HUFFINGTON. The boys all wear chinos and button-down shirts. KOS has an orange band around his head - almost like a crown. ARIANNA is wearing her traditional camisole-as-shirt and eyeing the men flirtatiously. SULLIVAN sports a snappy bowtie.

At the podium are the authors of the book, “He’s Just Not That Into You,” GREG BEHRENDT and LIZ TUCILLO. Throughout this whole play, GREG and LIZ speak to the bloggers in a typical motivational-speaker way - in other words, as if they are eight-year-old children.

Above the podium a sign reads, “HE’S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU.” GREG and LIZ also have nametags on. LIZ bangs a gavel to bring the meeting to order.

LIZ (brightly): Hello, everyone! I’m Liz -

GREG: And I’m Greg -

TOGETHER: And welcome to, He’s Just Not That Into You!

LIZ [sobering quickly]: Today, we’re here to talk to you about Senator Barack Obama. You all supported him pretty strongly in the primaries, didn’t you? [The bloggers all nod.] Now, why did you do that?

BTD: I didn’t REALLY like him better. I just thought he was more electable than Hillary.

KOS: He wasn’t Hillary! I hate that bitch! And besides, the Clinton Era is over. O-V-E-R!! The time of the blogger is NOW! We are crashing the gate! Obama is the progressive leader who will make our concerns his own. Power to the people!

ARAVOSIS and HUFFINGTON: Yeah! What he said!

SULLIVAN: I hate Hillary too, but Obama? He is Jesus and Elvis. He is the most historic, transformational -

GREG: Um, yes, we get it. Thank you, Andrew. Chris, what about you?

BOWERS: Obama is just like me! We drink the same beer PBR OMG OMG we go to Whole Foods!!! [becomes a little dizzy; ARIANNA solicitously pats his arm and offers him a drink of water]

LIZ: Whoa, take it easy there, Chris. I think we understand. Thanks, everyone, for your input. So, you guys all picked Obama as the nominee, and he won. Good for you!

[Everyone high-fives - HUFFINGTON leans forward, smiling and flashing her cleavage a bit.]

GREG: Yes, good for you. Now, let’s talk about what’s been happening lately. I heard he’s been going back on his promises and has stopped returning your calls. No matter what you do, you can’t seem to get his attention - and now he’s done something that really hurts your feelings. He voted to legalize Bush’s warrantless wiretapping and immunize the telecom companies from prosecution. Is that about on target?

BTD: Ha! Don’t make me out to be like one of these losers. I always saw Obama clearly. Pols are pols. Either he was lying then or he’s lying now, but no matter what, I’m going to vote for him because he’s a Democrat.

SULLIVAN: Oh, the FISA thing is no big deal. What is starting to bother me is his personality. Maybe he’s a little too full of himself lately. Still, there’s no denying what a transformational moment his presidency would be!

BOWERS: Doo-bee-doo-bee-doo. Hey, look at this pretty electoral map I made!

KOS: I’m very fucking annoyed. Those ridiculous PUMAs will only feel vindicated now. Of course, everyone knows he will still be a great President, so it will all work out in the end.

HUFFINGTON: Well, I have nothing to say on the matter. I’d rather talk about Karl Rove!

ARAVOSIS: Barack who? It was the Senate that passed the FISA bill.

[LIZ and GREG look at each other, puzzled.]

LIZ: Gosh, folks, you don’t seem to be getting what I’m saying here. Barack Obama promised to filibuster the FISA amendment bill if it contained telecom immunity. This was very important to all of you. You thought it made him special and progressive and unique. Then, he went back on his promise. Worse than that, Hillary Clinton kept her promise and voted against telecom immunity, so it looks like maybe you were wrong to hate her so. Meanwhile, Senator Obama has been “refining” more positions lately - including pretending he did not promise to immediately withdraw troops from Iraq and have everyone home in 16 months - but he says he will, right on his website!

Don’t you feel betrayed, like Joan Walsh? Don’t you feel like maybe, just maybe, he’s not that into you?

[All the bloggers squirm in their seats and are silent. Finally KOS takes the lead.]

KOS [standing]: Jesus Christ. I don’t have to take this crap. Obama’s my guy and I’m sticking by him.

BOWERS: [standing] Me too. And he loves me, he really does. I know it in my heart! He’ll come back to me after he’s President.

BTD [standing, disgusted]: Ahhhh, this New Age crap is for the birds. Obama’s a Democrat and that’s all I care about. I’m outta here.

ARAVOSIS: [standing] McCain sucks. Obama forever!

HUFFINGTON: [standing] Well I, personally, have no problems with what Obama did on FISA. He’s just pandering to get elected. I AM the one I’ve been waiting for. Good-bye! [they are all leaving]

SULLIVAN: [standing] Well, I personally think Obama’s just fine, as long as he doesn’t get too big a head. I don’t even know what I’m doing here. Later! [he follows the others out the door]

[LIZ and GREG look at each other in astonishment. Their cheery personas fall away and they become matter-of-fact. They shrug, then get to work cleaning up the coffee cups.]

LIZ: Worst case of denial I ever saw.

GREG: You said it, sister.

[LIGHTS OUT]

Obamaphiles: you’ve been had

Posted: 12 Jul 2008 07:23 AM CDT

Ever since Obama began his candidacy, the rest of us have wondered: how did a less than one term senator with virtually no qualification to be be president and no message but Change! make so much money in such a short period of time. Steve Soto at TheLeftCoaster sees an interesting correlation that many of you should stop and think about.

Before the primaries began, Obama had amassed $99 Million, almost as much as Hillary Clinton who had been amassing her warchest for years.  Where did that money come from?  Not only that but since Obama became the Presumptuous Nominee the money kind of dried up.  As Steve points out, the Obama campaign will try to pin this on Clinton and say that her supporters are holding back.  And this may very well be true.  But the decrease in funding started to happen back in March.

March? March? What happened back in March?  Oh, yes, i remember now.  Matt Yglesias, Chris Bowers, Josh Marshall and the other blogger boyz were going on and on about how it was mathematically impossible for Clinton to win.  Well, not exactly.  Without the voter suppression techniques that the Obama campaign used, it would have been very possible for her to win, but why get into that nasitiness?  The Obamaphiles don’t believe the Pure One would ever be that dishonest.  No, what Steve Soto uncovered, and what seems very likely, is that the money was directed at defeating Clinton.  It was made available for just that purpose.  Yep, thousands and thousands of maxxed out voters sending money for this one single purpose and then, just as suddenly, all drying up!

I mean, it *almost* seems like there was an influx of cash to Obama just when he needed it most with the specific goal of taking out Clinton and this influx of cash doesn’t seem to be sticking around for the General Election.  WHO would DO such a dastardly thing???  Who would deliberately fund a candidate who isn’t qualified for the least important cabinet position in the WH much less the presidency in order to knock out the strongest candidate that would go up against the Republicans in the fall?  Why, it’s almost ROVIAN in it’s simple brilliance.  It would be like having a lot of Republicans send money to the weakest Democratic candidate, reregister as Democrats or just vote for the Democrat in states where there were open primaries. I found a lot of such households in PA where the voter was just making mischief for the Democrats and never intended to vote for Obama in the fall.  LOL!  They were having a joke on us!  So much fun.

But, could it be that this is what happened with the fundraising money? That the ratfucking Republicans rigged the Democratic election by flooding the Obama campaign with cash and then beating a hasty retreat once they accomplished the dirty deed?  Hmmmm, there’s only one way to find out.  We need for Obama’s campaign to correlate contributions to party affiliation or previous contributions.  I mean, we’ve been so busy looking for Republicans among the PUMAs, maybe we’ve been looking for Republicans in all the wrong places.  Yeah!  Let’s demand that Obama release his contribution lists!  That would settle the question.  Wouldn’t he want to be rid of the taint of a Republican setup?  I mean, that would be sooo embarrassing if it turned out that he couldn’t win on his own merits and needed the help of sneaky Republicans.  it wouldn’t bode well for the GE, would it, if it turned out that much of his support was from Republicans who were just trying to game the system.

Oh, BTW, his campaign predicted a haul of $100 million in June.  He hauled in only $30 million.  What is it they say about past performance is not guarantee of future returns?

CSR Bitten.

Posted: 11 Jul 2008 11:48 PM CDT

There’s a certain amount of highly irrational thinking going on in the market, aided by the active shorting of shares reporting bad news.

We’ve seen it time and time again: more recently with GPT, which brought much of its sell-off on its own head.

GPT shares fell another 11 cents yesterday to close at $1.62. It’s getting painful

Yesterday CSR was hammered after falling short of market expectations for 2009 earnings guidance. The shares dropped 16% at one stage before finishing down 14.7% at $1.97.

CSR hadn’t been below $2 since mid 2004. It was the biggest fall in more than 20 years.

The greedy folk in the market had been looking for 14%, CSR promised 5%, which given the problems in the Australian home building industry, especially in NSW where CSR is strong, is not bad going.

CSR had forecast fiscal 2009 EBIT to grow organically and as a result of the positive impact of its glass business.

That was after 2008 saw earnings down 35% on 2007, thanks in part to lower world raw sugar prices and unprecedented wet weather in Queensland.

Group EBIT was $386.3 million, down 5%.

Obviously quite a few analysts and others who should know better have been too optimistic about some companies and the performance of the industry/industries they operate in.

CSR is big in building products, and in sugar, aluminium and property development.

Of those sugar has improved because of the commodity boom but CSR is a price taker with Brazil, India and Thailand influencing prices, as well as the growing ethanol industry, also in Brazil.

Housing is weak: the building approvals figures make that clear, as do the housing finance figures this week for May which showed a sharper than expected fall in loans and the value of approvals.

Mr Maycock said group like-for-like earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) for fiscal 2009 was expected to be slightly above the previous year, as CSR benefits from a full year of earnings from its Viridian architectural glass business.

“Overall EBIT (IS) currently expected to increase more than five per cent,” he told shareholders according to a slide pack released to the stock exchange.

Mr Maycock also forecast building products like-for-like earnings to be ahead of last year, but cautioned that market conditions remain uncertain.

Sugar EBIT is expected to be higher than last year, based on average weather conditions and current raw sugar prices.

Aluminium EBIT is projected to be slightly lower than last year.

But after hearing what many took as a ‘downgrade’ at the AGM in Sydney, CSR shares were sold off sharply, losing almost 14% in value as they plunged to $1.995 in afternoon trading yesterday.

CEO Gerry Maycock said outside the meeting that the decline in the share price recently had been part of an overall market trend.

“That is symptomatic of the general sentiment in the sharemarket where people are very sensitive to anything they perceive as bad news and there tends to be overreaction,” he said.

Earlier, CSR shareholders had been told that it expects group earnings before interest and tax rise by more than five per cent in the financial year ending March 2009.

Chairman Ian Blackburne told the meeting that the company was frustrated with its recent share price performance.

“Clearly the past year has been a volatile period on world markets,” he said.

“The on-going fall-out from the credit crunch in the US, together with a rapid increase in the price of oil and many resources, driven mainly by economic expansion in the developing world, has put stress on several economies including Australia.

“Investors are cautious and CSR, like most other companies in our market, has not been immune from the effects.

“Like you, we are also frustrated with the share price performance recently.

At least CSR is being upfront with the market and investors.

The CEO also said after the meeting that the company had found the Australian housing market has softened in the past three months.

“It is clear in the last three months there has been a softening in the housing market outlook,” Mr Maycock said.

“NSW remains pretty soft, and we’re seeing some reduction in confidence in Queensland which had been one of the fast growing states.”

“In Victoria, things are looking a little better but still some softening of sentiment.”

Mr Maycock said lower consumer confidence levels coupled with high interest rates was hitting the housing market.

“Overall it is a combination of sentiment, interest rates, house prices remaining high and just general consumer confidence which seems to have taken the wind out of the sails of the market,” he said.

The Chairman told the AGM that: “Some of our core business sectors, such as housing, continue to be challenging.”

“We are seeing clear signs of interest rate stress and loss of consumer confidence.

“Having said that, we are focused on the medium term and I believe CSR is establishing a strong platform for growth to continue to deliver value for shareholders,” he told the meeting.

The market wasn’t listening. For that blame hedge funds and others

El infrasonido, ese gran desconocido

Posted: 11 Jul 2008 05:55 AM CDT

BallenaInfrasonido

H/T to Katiebird for the Puma & Cocktail!

Ok, Conflucian PUMAs, put on your dancing shoes & get your Clinton Cocktail and dance!

UPDATE: Changed the video, sound quality not the greatest - this one is much better.

Clip is from Puma Carranza and Rocio on the Latin American version of "Dancing with the Stars” (Baliando con las Estrellas).  Yes, it's just as cheesy as the US version but hard not to look away.

Rico and the bouncers are checking for ID and there is a $5.00 cover charge.  You can click on the Just Say No Deal "5 Bux for Hillary" coffee cup on the right hand screen OR click HERE to give our Hillary a debt-free weekend.

If you don't have the funds, a good Conflucian will spot you a fiver (please?)

UPDATE:  If you want the Hillary prize-winning t-shirt, you can order HERE.

Rico will be serving drinks in a HOT bicep enhancing V-neck, wowza!   Flo will be checking in words you don't want to say in front of the kiddies.

For the more studious minded, I think Maggie Gallager is in a pre-PUMA stage, with her latest opinion piece Obama is a Politician:

And Obama promises to vastly expand taxpayer obligations for a new and expensive network of benefits at the same time that neither he nor anyone else in Washington — including John McCain — will tell us how to pay for our existing underfunded obligations to senior citizens in Social Security, Medicare and prescription drug benefits. All gain, no pain. That’s Obama’s totally conventional Washington promise to the American people.

¡A bailar!  - Let’s Dance!

Our Post-Racial Paradise. Thank you Mr. Obama!

There is more than one way to burn a book. And the world is full of people running about with lit matches.

                                               —-Ray Bradbury

Many of you saw my encounter with the Obamaphile in New Hampshire who accused me of being a racist because I had the audacity to point out that a certain block of voters (African Americans) who voted for Obama in the primary at levels of almost 9 to 1 were not getting anything in return for their overwhelming support of the Senator.  Here it is again in case you missed it.

This guy even suggested that I believe that anything less than the use of the “n-word” is not racist.  Not that I feel the need to defend myself, but think of it this way:  Right wing christians voted for Bush by almost the same margins as African Americans voted for Obama.   In return for that support, Bush owed them something, right?  That’s how we got the gay marriage amendment, faith based initiatives and a whole host of other horrible considerations for this one monolithic voting block.  Is it racist to ask why a candidate who gets that kind of support does not respond to the wants and needs of that block? At the very least, shouldn’t he avoid “talking down to black people” as Jesse Jackson so ineloquently suggested?

Anyway, whatever, I could care less what they think of me.  I just find it offensive to people who have suffered at the hands of real bigots and racists.  Which, by the way, is not limited to African Americans.  I have been subjected to intimidation and threats because I am gay.  I’m sure members of other marginalized groups all have their horror stories to tell.  One of the most unforgivable of Obama’s digressions this primary season was the casual accusations of racism against the very people who had worked their entire lives to combat racial injustice.  Not only does it damage the reputation of those accused, it cheapens the offenses suffered by those who truly have been deeply hurt by racism in this country.  It also dilutes the meaning of these charges to a point of absurdity.  For example:

A county commissioners’ meeting this week over traffic tickets turned into a tense discussion over race when one commissioner said the county’s collections office was like a certain astronomical phenomenon.

“It sounds like Central Collections has become a black hole,” Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said during the Monday meeting.

One black official demanded an apology, and Commissioner John Wiley Price, who also is black, said that type of language is unacceptable.

At the meeting, Mayfield said he intended his comments to be taken in the context of the scientific meaning, and became upset that he was being misunderstood.

yeah, I’d be a little upset too, actually.  But not because I know the sting of being called a racist, but because I know the other side as well.  I know what it’s like to be intimidated and threatened with violence because of my sexual orientation.  I’m sure that many African Americans know what I am talking about.  Most of them have undoubtedly been subjected to REAL racism and bigotry at some point in their lives.   Real racism is scary.  Real racism is showing up at school and finding nooses hanging from a tree.  This jackass (I hope that is a sufficiently colorless insult so as to not be taken as racist) went on to say:

Later, Price told MyFOXdfw.com that he believed it and other terms were racist.

“So if it’s ‘angel food cake,’ it’s white. If it’s ‘devil’s food cake,’ it’s black. If you’re the ‘black sheep of the family,’ then you gotta be bad, you know. ‘White sheep,’ you’re okay. You know?” Price said.

I contend that people shouldn’t use bogus charges of racism to divert attention from their own shortcomings–are you listening Mr. Obama? Ms. Sebelius? it seems that this nutjob has been infected with the same belief as the woman who called me a racist:

Price said people should watch their words when it comes to stereotypes.

“I think people should always be careful.”

So who is really doing the intimidating here?  Is it the man who referred to the badly managed department as a “black hole”, or is it Mr. Price who, through such ridiculous accusations, is letting people who might criticize him know that if they try, they too will be tarred with the most ugly and heinous of accusations. The woman in the video tells me, in almost the exact same words, that I need to be very careful about what I say.  It almost seems like a threat rather than an admonition.   When people start telling other people in a society that we must be “careful what we say”, we are on a slippery slope towards censorship.  As former supreme court justice Potter Stewart said:

Censorship reflects society’s lack of confidence in itself.  It is a hallmark of an authoritarian regime.  ~Potter Stewart

And in a society where free speech is so much a part of who we are as a people, one of the best ways to silence people is by shaming them.  That is exactly what this creep is trying to do to his critics, and it is exactly what Obama is trying to do to his.  The difference is one is a crackpot county administrator trying to cover his a#$, the other is running to become the most powerful man in the world.

SD’s, this message is for you:

You wanna know why PUMAs exist?  It’s because we are f%&*(ing tired of losing every four years.  Seriously.  I’ve been a Democrat since the 60’s when my earliest memory consists of screaming, “it’s a free country!  I can say whatever I want!” across the playground.  But in all the years I have been elegible to vote, I’ve bet on the winner exactly twice, in 1992 and 1996.  Yep, in all of my adult life, I have seen the DNC and my party squander one opportunity after another.  First there was the competent but brutally honest Mondale.  Then there was the oddly unemotional, dweeby Dukakis.  I actually liked Gore, if not his rhetorical style.  Then came Kerry, who seemed like the honest Abe Lincoln sort, minus the brilliant mind.

In each case, the DNC seems to get caught off guard.  The RNC develops some ingenious wedge issue, points out some stupid little idiosyncracy of the candidate and voile!  $100 million later, the Democratic candidate is toast and we’re stuck with another Republican, raiding and pillaging his way through the treasury.

This year, I swear, Rove did his magic from within the party because we have become our own worst enemy.  Not only have we pitted gender against race with predictable results, but the party seems to have brought out the worst in itself complete with self-righteous, moralizing, values nannies who want to club us over the head with the teachable moment on race.  Do these people even know what party they’re in???  We’re DEMOCRATS.  We don’t DO the racist thing.  If the Dolores Umbrage types wanted to interrupt the most important election of our lifetime to lecture the country on racism, they should have waited until the General Election.  In the primaries, it’s just a frickin’ annoyance.  *We’re* the bright students, remember? Jeez!  Enough of that. I digress.

What’s worse is the way the Deaniacs have taken over the party.  Now, I have to admit that I actually used to hang out with these people.  (BTW, I cancelled my hotel reservation for Netroots Nation if anyone needs to snag one)  But I never understood the fascination that these people had for Howard Dean.  If anyone has ever read Malcolm Gladwell’s book, Blink!, you’ll know what I am refering to when I say that my thin slice of Howard Dean was that he was and is a dilettante.  He dabbles.  He likes to play politics and theories and he’s an idea rat.  But his campaign in 2004 said to me “failure to stay on task”.  He’s an adult with ADD.  He’s bright at all get out but he can’t follow through.  And what we have with the party is the result of a bunch of nifty, keen ideas and absolutely no leadership.  It’s chaos x 10^23.

In a year when the party is hurting for money, some events in Denver have been cancelled in favor of fundraisers. But the party planning committee has gotten all high-maintenance with a list of food regulations for the catering staff including “no fried foods” and going so far as to specify colors.  Ooo, yeah, there’s some Rush Limbaugh material right there.  Why is it that the one time a delegate can get away from the fam and live it up, the party takes away the tempura shrimp in the sushi and makes extra sure you get your daily dose of beta carotene?  What is WRONG with these people?!  Do they think the bills in Denver are just going to magically pay for themselves?  And now they are renting Invesco Field for the Dauphin of Democracy’s Investiture?

But the biggest insult this year in a year of insults has to be the deliberate attempts to exclude half of the Democratic party from full participation at the convention.  Let me give it to you straight, SD’s, this is a catastrophic strategy and just plain stoopid.  You may not want to admit to it because it’s like finally facing up to the fact that you’ve spent way too much on vacation and you’re afraid to look at your bank balance.  But look you must.  The party is being ripped asunder.  In any other year, Barack Obama would have faded away like Dennis Kucinich.  He’s a great idea but there’s no way he can possibly win.  He just doesn’t have the institutional investment yet.  He hasn’t had time to learn the legislative ropes or form coalitions of his own or work on any policy to achieve expertise.  He’s a big fat zero except that his skin color makes him unique.  But let us not fool ourselves.  The symbolism of his historic candidacy is not going to be sufficient to overcome all of his flaws, not in the general election.  And the reason I know this is because, the party has jettisoned the people it needs the most to make him competitive- the so-called “Old Coalition”.  Do you think we are going to “get over it” before November?  You can have the oldest opponent on the planet, an opposing party that is as discredited as can be and a sycophantic media (for now), but without half of your party, it is going to be a nail biter.  And we’ve seen how nail biter’s have gone in the past 8 years.  Couple that with the fact that the half you pissed off is ready to vote for the other guy and you have another lost election.

Did I mention how PUMAs are sick of losing?

Now, I don’t know what you have against Hillary.  And I don’t know what made you guys think that we were all just going to fall into line like Republicans.  But you’ve gotten a lot wrong this year.  Forcing Obama down our throats during the convention is going to backfire, HUGELY.  In fact, considering the number of votes Hillary got, to have anything less than a knock-down-drag-out floor fight is going to be a disaster.  Forget what David Axelrod, Donna Brazile, Nancy Pelosi and Howard Dean are telling you.  Throw out the old models of what you expect voters to do in the fall.  You cannot take that kind of risk.  There is too much uncertainty.  And if the general election voters detect that you are not serious about winning in the fall, in a year when gas is creeping towards $5/gal, the war in Iraq drags on, there is a financial crisis looming and a million other things that affect the average Joe after 8 years of George Bush, the party as we know it will be dead.  There goes YOUR institutional power.

Forget what the power brokers tell you or what the Teaparty Ten tell you about how uncomfortable and destructive a floor fight will be.  At this point it is the only thing that will save you.  If Obama can win it legitimately in a fair, open and transparent convention, the party will emerge more unified after the convention.  If the party feels that Hillary is the better candidate, well, Obama either takes VP or an old, cold tater and waits for his turn, as he *should* have done before his ego was inflated to go for it this year.

But as Mark Rubin suggested yesterday, you may feel you are in a bit of a bind.  How do you go against the perception that Barack Obama is the party’s nominee without looking like complete suckers?  Hey, I don’t care what you guys choose as the excuse to knock Obama down and level the playing field between him and Hillary.  FISA sticks in our craw quite a bit.  Why not go with that?  Jesse Jackson made a good point about Obama using Republican campaigning rhetoric by overemphasizing morals to the detriment of economic issues. Maybe one of you might want to call him out for being a closet Republican and start calling loudly for his nuts.  If you start musing publicly about how unlikeable his arrogance is and if you slip in a few words in favor of Hillary in there, where’s the harm?  I don’t care what excuse you use, just find one.

And get rid of Donna Brazile while you’re at it.

Did I mention how PUMAs are sick of losing?

Friday, They say “He’s Electable,” We say, “Not”

Posted: 11 Jul 2008 07:32 AM CDT

A couple of days ago my husband came tearing out of the bedroom saying that someone on TV said that she was a P.U.M.A. and that Obama was “Unelectable, Unqualified and Illegitimate.” These three things (he said she said) that meant Obama was going to lose the election if the Democrats give Obama the nomination.

That phrase, “Unelectable, Unqualified and Illegitimate,” has stayed with me ever since. It pulses through my mind with nearly every heartbeat. And I wonder sometimes why no one else can hear it. I spent a day with my parents (Dad a PUMA, Mom a TEPID) and an Obama supporting sister. And I swear the phrase was reverberating so loudly in my mind, I kept expecting her to tell me to shut up.

Not that she would. She’s not that sort of sister.

When I think of “electability” I always think of John Kerry and Howard Dean. I remember September of 2002 when my mom asked me who I was supporting for President (we have the sort of family where that question is often asked two years before an election.) I said I didn’t know but that I wasn’t thrilled about supporting John Kerry. She said what about the Governor of Vermont — she heard he was interested. Brainiac that I am I said, “Mom, I’m NOT supporting some Governor of Vermont for President. THAT’s just impossible!” And OH, how I wish I’d stuck with that feeling.

Because if there is one thing I learned in 2004, you may not be able to predict the most electable but, you sure as heck can see the most unelectable a mile away.

Obama and his supporters are trying to parse their way to the nomination and on through the election. They try to pretend that “Unelectable” is a racist argument because racism is the only thing stopping anyone from voting for him. And when we bring up the specific problems they claim those are “Republican Talking Points” as if Obama wouldn’t have to face up to such issues in the General Election.

Well, the Obama Campaign’s real problem is that those issues aren’t just “Republican Talking Points” they are serious issues that show very real weaknesses in Obama’s judgment and the judgment of the Democratic leadership that brought us to this point.

(Days pass: My brain is filled with a relentless buzzing sound)

As I contemplate and try to sort the list of Obama’s weaknesses, I finally figured out where that buzzing sound is coming from. It’s the result of that barrage of issues surrounding the Obama Candidacy and it’s not a buzzing: it’s the repetition of but, but, but, but, but. . . . .

But, He’s never really held a full-time job. Is the Presidency an entry level position?

But, even before his recent flip-flop on FISA he signaled that he didn’t have the same judicial priorities as me.

But, even with important endorsements he lost the major states on Super Tuesday and after Hillary restructured her campaign he lost nearly every major state. Don’t candidates usually start sweeping the states after they get tagged as inevitable? Obama managed to lose every single county in West Virginia at a time when he was supposedly our inevitable nominee.

But, I keep hearing “God Damn America” and wonder how that’s going to sound in the fall.

But, he’s not brave enough — his willingness to distance himself from longtime friends like the Reverend Wright aside — what about his flip-flops on issues? Has he stood staunchly for anything?

But, He keeps laughing at voters and talking down to us and could his affection for rap music come back to haunt him?

But, what about the stuff that hasn’t come out? Will Obama’s relationship with Ayers and Rezko play a role? What about the history of corruption in Chicago?

But, he thinks Universal Health Care isn’t fair to people who don’t want access to health care . . . Reminding me of how he thought counting the votes in Florida and Michigan wouldn’t be fair to the people who didn’t vote.

(Putting my hands over my ears to mute the buzzing)

The list goes on and on — I never get to the But that makes it all OK. Am I missing something?

Why a property crash is unlikely.

Posted: 11 Jul 2008 12:26 AM CDT

By Michael Yardney

A recent survey in The Economist Magazine suggested that Australia has the most over valued residential property in the world. Once again they predict a property crash in Australia as do a number of commentators

This makes for scary reading and I understand why many home owners and investors are nervous, but a property crash is not on the cards for Australia.

Sure our property boom is over - but that doesn't mean we are going to have a property crash.

There is no doubt that property markets have a lot to contend with this year. Apart from rising interest rates, our property markets had to deal with a global credit crunch, the U.S sub prime crisis, a U.S economy heading into recession, the stock market down turn, plummeting housing affordability, unprecedented rental supply shortages and lenders tightening there belts.

So it is not surprising that one questions whether Australia's property market can survive all these blows or will they suffer the same fate that is happening overseas.

The recent U.S.A. National Association of Realtors house price survey recorded an average 7.7% drop in property values for the year of March. This is the biggest on record since 1982. In some states, including California and Florida, property values have plummeted by up to 30%. There are even reports that some financiers are repossessing homes and then asking the owners to stay there rent free just to protect the property from vandals.

Property values have also crashed in Brittan but not to the same extent as the USA. Britain is also suffering from the fallout of the American sub prime crisis with lenders severely restricting funding for investment properties.

So…… why do I think The Economist and other property commentators have got it wrong?

Firstly I could say The Economist was wrong when it made similar predictions 2 years ago. At that time they predicted a property collapse in Australia yet property values in most of our capital cities have increased by ten, fifteen and in many cases over twenty percent in the last year alone. Of course a counter argument could be: " Well all is means we are now in for a bigger crash!"

I believe the doom-sayers have got it wrong is because they don't understand the difference between the fundamental of the Australian property market and those overseas and the difference between this property cycle and previous property downturns.

In America many residential housing loans are "non-recourse loans." In other words lenders don't have to personally guarantee their loans. They can walk away from their loan commitments, leave their house to the lender and the bank can't make them pay for any short fall when (and if) they sell the property.

This is why you will often see different investment strategies used by property investors in America where the mortgage stays with the house and not with the borrower.

Obviously here in Australia you can't just walk away from your loan. If you can't make the re-payments, the banks may take over your property and the day of reckoning will eventually come when you will have to pay the bank for any shortfall they have after repossessing your property.

Our local housing market is underpinned by the fact that 70% of Australians own their own homes or are paying them off. Considering the strength of our property markets over the last few years, unless you they bought recently or over committed, many Australians have a large amount of equity in their homes and a significant proportion have no debt against their homes.

We are investing in a market dominated by non investors. As apposed to shares investors, home owners don't just sell their house when the news is bad or property market is flat.

If you think about it, at any one time only about 5% of property owners are going to need to buy or sell their homes. This means the majority of property owners are not really affected by what is happening to property values as they are in it for the long term. They won't need to sell their properties if conditions in the property market get worse. This is obviously very different to the stock market where as the share prices plummet, more investors have to sell to cover their margin calls accelerating the drop in share prices

There are many other strong fundamentals that should prevent our property markets from crashing. Our market conditions are very different to previous property downturns.

Currently we have a robust economy, strong population growth, changing demographics a huge deficiency for properties for both owners and tenants, and rising the building costs. All this points to a short downturn with the fundamentals underpinning the next stage of the property cycle.

In previous property market downturns we had an economy in recession, while today our economy is strong and buoyant.

In previous property market downturns immigration fell, as people didn't want to come to a country with an ailing economy.

This time round Australia is experiencing a population boom, with the current rate of population growth the highest in almost 20 years. Recently released Australian Bureau of Statistics figures reveal that the Australian population increased by 331,872 new residents or 1.6% over the 2007 calendar year. Our rate of population growth has not been this high since 1989. In general these are highly skilled business migrants that are coming with money who are keen to buy houses. Many of these migrants are from Generation X or Y and are balancing our aging natural population. This is a good thing and something the ailing property markets in the USA and Britain would be desperately jealous of.

At the same time our changing demographics, the fact that we have more single and two people households, means that we need more dwellings for the same number of people.

In previous property market downturns we experienced an oversupply of properties. Over- enthusiastic builders built too many apartments and excited property investors put too many new properties onto the letting market. This increased supply of stock in the presence of decreasing demand meant that both property prices and rentals had to fall.

This time round we have a deficiency of stock in the presence of strong demand.

If we combine the low number of new constructions with the shortage of available property supply, accentuated by higher building costs and banks tightening finance for new development, we have a volatile mixture that can only lead to a much higher cost of the next round of new dwellings to be built.

What about all the news of rising interest rates and mortgage stress?

In previous property slumps we had low employment. Rising unemployment with no wages coming into the household meant families were forced to sell their homes. Today we have full employment, which means that even though there are higher loan repayments stretching family budgets, with house hold incomes of rising it's not likely that owners will walk away from the houses.

Another factor suggesting this property downturn will be short lived is the strongly rising rentals that property investors are receiving all around the country. Rental increases usually lead to rising property values as investors come back into the market chasing stronger yields.

Putting all this together it is unlikely that a property crash is on the cards.

Our property markets are behaving normally working their way through the individual property cycles. Within each state the property markets are fragmented with some suburbs, in particular the more affluent near city and bayside suburbs, still performing strongly, while other suburbs will languish.

Understanding these cycles means that there are great opportunities out there for property investors who are selective and think long term.

MCC/RFG Have Good News.

Posted: 10 Jul 2008 11:28 PM CDT

Takeover favourite last week, now a rare profit upgrade: Macarthur Coal has certainly had a busy few weeks.

And, it seems that for once in the past couple of years, it's been good news from Queensland’s strained coal handling infrastructure, rather than the usual litany of bad reports. The company had better than expected coal shipments last month, allowing for the improved profit outlook.

The company yesterday increased its annual profit guidance by around 19% after a rise in expected sales.

Without the takeover talk, yesterday’s upgrade would have been enough to get most analysts re-rating the company’s outlook for 2008-09.

It now expects net profit after tax (NPAT) of between $80 million to $90 million for 2007-08, less than two months after providing guidance of $67 million to $75 million for the year.

“The revised NPAT forecast follows increased coal sales and shipments in June, due to a reduction in the vessel queue at Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal, providing the ability to load more vessels than forecast,” acting chief executive Peter Kane said in a statement.

Macarthur shares gained a few cents in the morning, by then went for a good gallop in the afternoon, finishing up nearly 12%, or $1.80 at $17.10.

It was a big reversal of the weakness seen after a stalemate appeared on the share register with ArcelorMittal, the world’s biggest steel maker, Posco of South Korea, the world’s number 4 and the Chinese trader, CITIC having large stakes, but not able to exert control.

Once the market saw that there would be no bid, despite Posco buying its 10% stake at $20 a share and Arcelor getting some of it's 19.9% for around the same price, the shares plunged.

They went lower in the bumpy trading this week, but jumped sharply on the unexpected good news.

Mr Kane said the revised forecast demonstrated a substantial improvement in the second half of the year for the company, compared to the first half profit of $13.5 million.

Macarthur’s largest customer ArcelorMittal is now the company’s biggest single shareholder with a 19.9% stake.

Chinese group CITIC has a 17.7% interest, while Posco - another Macarthur customer - has a 10% stake. Former founder, Ken Talbot’s holding in Macarthur now sits at 4.76%.

Macarthur supplies more than a third of the world’s pulverised coal from its two operations, Coppabella and Moorvale, which are in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.

Its results have been hit in the past two years by the shortage of capacity on Queensland railroads and in the export ports, forcing it to cut shipments and earnings. Its mines were affected by heavy rain earlier in the year.

“The current upgrade to our profit guidance comes as a result of higher than expected coal deliveries in June,” Mr Kane said in the statement to the ASX.

“This is particularly pleasing considering operations at Coppabella continue to suffer residual effects from flooding in the Bowen basin earlier in the year.”

The company will report a $28 million gain on the sale of a 19.61% in the Monto Coal 2 mine, it also said.

And Retail Food Group Ltd (RFG) is another with good news for the market, although its improvement has been long anticipated since a slew of acquisitions in the past year.

The company, which is a ‘carb’ retailer in that it sells yummy things like donuts, French style pastries and bread, as well as coffee and other food, has gained a bigger footprint in the Australian retailing sector as a result of its purchases.

It said yesterday that it now expects full year profit to rise by at least 116% thanks to the acquisitions of the popular Brumby’s Bakeries and Michel’s Patisserie franchises.

The company said unaudited accounts point to a net profit between $16.3 million and $16.8 million for the year to June 30, 7/08, up from the $7.52 million earned in the 2007 year.

It also expects earnings per share (EPS) to grow by around 75% to 18.4 cents, from 10.5 cents, beating its guidance for EPS of 15.75%.

CEO, Tony Alford said in a statement to the ASX that “The business operations of RFG and its franchise systems performed strongly throughout the financial year notwithstanding the well founded and highly publicised commentary regarding continued deterioration in discretionary spending and depressed consumer sentiment,”

RFG bought the Brumby’s Bakeries and Michel’s Patisserie franchise systems in the first half of the financial year.

It said increases in network revenues, due to new outlet growth and average weekly sales growth across each of the company’s Donut King, bb’s café, Michel’s Patisserie and Brumby’s Bakeries franchises have also contributed to the result.

RFG will report its full year figures next month.

RFG shares jumped 12 cents to $1.35, a rise of 9.7% on the day.

I have decided to publish every time I change my portfolio or add to it.So Watch this Space as I have decided to trade a bit more often then I have in the past, as I have more time available to me now.

Today I increased my holdings of Imperial Oil & Gas.(IMP. ASX Code.) The reason for this purchase was that the share had dropped down from .02 per share to .014 cents per share.
The only reason that I can see for this dramatic drop was by margin lenders selling off stock.

With what I already held it reduced my entry price to 0.132 cps.

The fundamentals are good, they are expanding their gas wells in the USA by another 40,they have experienced 100% success rate in drilling the last 24 gas wells. They are looking at locating more areas to prospect plus are on the acquisition trail. They are cashed up and are currently selling off Beemax (BMX) which is being taken over, for a nice $14,000,000.

Incidentally this stock was tipped by David Hasselhurst ( The Speculator) a few months ago in the “Money Magazine.

For more details go to www.asx.com.au/ and do some research or check my past posts on IMP in My Portfolio

The stock closed at 0.15 cps today at close of market.

La dificultad de convertirse en fósil

Posted: 10 Jul 2008 05:05 PM CDT

Fosil

Altamente recomendable.

Confluence Lounge

Posted: 10 Jul 2008 09:53 PM CDT

I think it may be a little late for a full-fledged cocktail hour, but our lovely fundraisers Fuzzybear and Carol have been working themselves silly tonight.  Last I checked they had helped loosen our PUMA pockets to the tune of more than $5,000.  I think they deserve a rest and a drink on the house.  So I thought we all might let our hair down and visit the Confluence Lounge.  Drinks are cheap, albeit somewhat watered down.  The bartender Max is working two jobs to put his kids through school, so don’t give him a hard time, and tip big.  Feel free to suggest a tune to the band.  I thought I’d start off with a song that reflects how a lot of us feel about our candidate, Hillary.  We will not give up, we will not give in, and we will not go away.  We’re gonna be here come rain or come shine.

Now dig deep down and let’s set Hillary free.  get your T-shirt here

or contribute what you can over here

Rescue Mission!

According to our reliable sources, Snidely, er, the DNC has been pressuring Hillary  to pay her campaign debt or it will force her to release her delegates or have a merely symbolic role at the convention.  Originally, they were going to give her til the end of the month to pay the rent, then they moved it up to July 15.  Now, it’s imminent.  Drat!  Hillary must be flipping some of the Superdelegates or the DNC wouldn’t be so dastardly.

Oh, heck, sure they would. They’re like that.

Once again, we are asking you to do the impossible and reach down into your pocket, waaayyy down where the lint grows, and pull up a couple bucks for Hillary that you might have spent on that iced double caramel latte.  If you can throw in a fifty, you can get the winning T-Shirt from Chelsea’s T-Shirt design contest from earlier in the campaign.

We were so successful last weekend that we knocked off some$6Million (conservative estimate).  The DNC must be getting nervous that Dudley Do-Right is going to show up in time.  One more push ought to do it and free our heroine from the clutches of the evil Whiplash and make Donna Brazile hiss, “Curses!  Foiled again!”.

Who Killed Ole Yeller? A Play in One Mysterious Act.

Posted: 10 Jul 2008 01:46 PM CDT

***NOTE: Thanks to SM at The Confluence for inspiring this one. As you can see, I’m over my qualms. You are brilliant, SM!

THE SCENE: An old-fashioned parlor out of Agatha Christie, with sofas, chairs, a fireplace, porcelains on the mantel, etc. HILLARY CLINTON, wearing a yellow pantsuit, is standing center stage. Seated are NANCY PELOSI, BARACK OBAMA, DONNA BRAZILE and HOWARD DEAN. Standing in the corner with arms folded is Obama’s right-hand man, DAVID AXELROD.

HILLARY: All right everyone, you know why we’re here. A crime has been committed, and it’s a very serious one. I figured we are all suspects, so we might as well get our stories straight.

OBAMA (sullenly): Well, it wasn’t me.

AXELROD: Barack - take it easy. Remember - Unity, hope, change! [OBAMA rolls his eyes.]

BRAZILE [faux-fended]: For Pete’s sake, Hillary, what the hell am I doing here? I’m neutral! How could I be guilty? Don’t you know I work for CNN?

[Brief pause]

ALL except BRAZILE: HAHAHAHAHA! [BRAZILE glares at everyone, then slowly breaks into a grin and laughs along with them]

HILLARY [wiping her eyes]: Whew! Thanks for the laugh, Donna. That really broke the ice! [returning to seriousness] Okay, are we ready to get down to business?

PELOSI [with a stern look at the others]: Go ahead, Hillary. We’re ready.

HILLARY: Thank you, Madame Speaker. [takes out a police report and scans it while speaking] All right now, as we know, Ole Yeller, the Yellow Dog Democrat, died sometime during the primary season. The voters aren’t sure when it happened, but they know he’s gone to another, more Independent place. He’ll never vote straight Democrat again. A moment of silence for poor Ole Yeller, if you would.

[ALL bow their heads.]

HILLARY [sighing and resuming her spiel]: Right at this moment, things are looking pretty grim for our Party because of Ole Yeller’s death. We can’t bring him back to life, but maybe if we figure out how he died, we can persuade the voters to get a replacement. A New Yeller, if you will. [The others groan.]

OBAMA: Jeez, Hillary, can’t you get to the point a little faster?

HILLARY [muttering]: Amateur. [PELOSI snorts in agreement.]

DEAN: Obama’s right. Let’s just start talking about how none of us could have done it, then we’ll all blame Hillary and go home. Deal? [HILLARY shakes her head with a little half-smile, then sits down by the fireplace.]

BRAZILE: That’s a great idea, Howard! I’ll go first. [stands up, begins pacing the room dramatically] Of COURSE I couldn’t have done it. I mean, no one knows better than me how to win over Democrats. Look at my record! Every Presidential candidate I’ve worked with has won! [grins triumphantly, arms out]

AXELROD [crossing to BRAZILE]: Uh, Donna, you might want to check that statement. You’ve chalked up more losses than wins in your column, unless you’re seriously claiming that Dukakis, Jesse Jackson, Gephardt and Gore all became President? [Donna's grin falters, and she sits down sheepishly] Oh yes, you definitely could have done it…unlike me. Look at my incredible record running campaigns and working for Democratic politicians. I got Deval Patrick elected, and then, of course, Barack. I could not be more innocent. Ole Yeller loved me and my candidates!

PELOSI [standing]: Ha! Your [sarcastic] brilliant campaign made a lot of women very angry. I know because they kept calling me. [imitating the callers] “Why does Obama call women ’sweetie’ and offer to kiss them for votes? Why doesn’t he say something about all the misogyny from his supporters and surrogates? What was that stuff about being periodically down?” Blah blah blah. They’re a bunch of whiners, but they do have a point. So don’t tell me about how you couldn’t have killed that dog. You’re just as guilty as Donna here.

OBAMA: [standing] And what about you, Nancy?

PELOSI [bristling]: That’s Speaker Pelosi to you.

OBAMA [smiling]: My apologies, Madame Speaker. [PELOSI is somewhat mollified. Of course, it's hard to tell because of the Botoxed frozenness of her face.] But my question remains, what about you? Thanks to your inability to get us out of Iraq, Congress’ “good to excellent” approval rating is 9%. That’s gotta be some kind of record, right guys? [THE MEN ALL SNICKER. HILLARY glares at Obama until he stops laughing.] Uh, anyway, looks like you’re not so innocent either.

PELOSI [dignified]: Fine. I’ll admit that I’m not a saint. But Senator Obama, can you do the same?

OBAMA [offended]: Who, me? Are you kidding? I AM the Democratic Party! I moved the DNC to Chicago! I’m Obama for America! And besides, everyone loves me. Yes, I can!

HILLARY [unable to keep silent]: Oh, for god’s sake, Barack, you don’t believe your own propaganda, do you? Save it for your deluded worshipers in the blogosphere!

AXELROD [aside to Obama]: Yeah, Barack. I told you that most of those [makes air quotes with his hands] “anonymous supporters” work for me anyway.

OBAMA [ignoring AXELROD, sneering at HILLARY]: Oh please, woman, like you have the right to tell me what to do! I am the nominee! I won! I’m going to be nominated in a giant football stadium in front of 76,000 screaming fans - I mean, Party members! I’ll win without you and your voters! Who needs those Bubbas, anyway?

DEAN [scratching his head]: Uh, Barack? You know, a lot of people think Ole Yeller was a Bubba. You’re acting like you sure hated him. Maybe you ARE the killer!

[BILL CLINTON enters.]

BILL: Did I hear someone say Barack killed Ole Yeller? Well, forgive me for being just a dumb country boy from Arkansas, but it seems to me you’re all guilty. Donna, you changed the DNC rules to disenfranchise Florida and Michigan, but not states you thought Barack would win. Howard, you let her do it. Axelrod, you’re just creepy with all that cult worshiping stuff, the Bush-style campaigning and the astroturfing. And Nancy? Well, I feel kinda sorry for you because you got ol’ Steny undermining you every step of the way, but you sure didn’t help Ole Yeller much - and the buck stops with you.

OBAMA: Oh, come on now. Like you’re an impartial observer, Bill? This is - just - inartful, even for you.

BILL [getting red in the face and pointing]: Listen here, you ungrateful little Chicago punk. If it wasn’t for me - the only two-term Democratic President in this room, by the way - you would be nowhere, man. I raised Ole Yeller. I made him think we Democrats cared about him. I fed him, I stayed up with him at night when he was sick, and I made sure he stayed with me instead of going to Bush’s or Dole’s house. By the time I was done with Ole Yeller, it looked like he’d live forever - or at least another eight years!

You guys were the ones that screwed it up. You showed Ole Yeller you didn’t care about him. After eight years of Bush destroying everything he loved, he finally died - of a broken heart.

[EVERYONE but HILLARY starts yelling at BILL and each other. BRAZILE and PELOSI start throwing porcelains at each other. DEAN starts screaming "Chicago sucks! Yeeeearrrrgh!" at AXELROD.]

[HILLARY stands up and walks over to BILL. She shakes her head and takes his hand.]

HILLARY: I wonder if they’ll ever understand what happened to that poor dog? Come on, Bill, let’s get out of here. [exiting] Maybe in 2012, we can get the Party a puppy!

A Noisy Noise Annoys a Noisy Oyster

Posted: 10 Jul 2008 12:00 PM CDT

Masslib at Alegre’s Corner pointed me to the silly commentary on FISA on DailyKos.  Suffice it to say, Markos is uncomfortable.  He is not amused.  First, there was that stupid FISA vote yesterday where the evil villainess, Senator Clinton, voted like she always said she was going to vote- for Constitutional principle.  And Senator Obama, that evil of two lessers, did not.  Nope, he was OK with George Bush listening in on our cell phones and peering into our email.  That’s all cool and groovy for Obama.

So, what to make of this inversion?  Markos said that Clinton appears to be finished triangulating and that’s good because triangulation is bad.  And Barack Obama is triangulating because he needs to win.  And this is also good.  Because he needs to win.  Wrapping his head around this must be tiring because it is making Markos cranky:

Like all retreats, this one came with a price. Much of his veneer as a transformational politician has faded. He’s a gifted and inspirational politician, no doubt about that, and he will make a great president. But at the end of the day, he’s a politician, with all the triangulating goodness that’s become a hallmark of our presidential candidates. That has cost him some intensity of support, some bad headlines, a new avenue of attack for Republicans (even though McCain didn’t even bother showing up for the vote), and … renewed energy and sense of purpose for the ridiculous PUMAs. That last one is really fucking annoying.

I have no idea why Markos is giving us attention on his world’s biggest political billboard but, hey, whatever works.  Make some noise for us, Kos.

Update: I am watching Bush sign the FISA bill and he is thanking the members of the House and Senate, including Steny Hoyer, Jay Rockefeller, Silvestre Reyes … and “other supporters of this legislation”.  Oooo, isn’t that nice?  Bush is thanking Barack Obama for helping him fight terrism.  Wow!  When they said that Obama would have an historic candidacy, they sure weren’t kidding.  He and Bush will go down in history for this day, the day the fourth amendment took a body blow.  I hope Markos isn’t too annoyed.

Purrrrrr…

It’s Thursday. Has she quit yet? 5 Bucks says she’s in….

I dumped the "star" - 5BUX in the next 48

I dumped the "star" - 5BUX in the next 48

Gracious winners that they are the Obama campaign has been sending signals far and wide that if Hillary doesn’t get her campaign debt paid off by some arbitrary date the DNC won’t allow her name to be entered for votes at the convention. Most recently Alegre posted this:

Breaking! DNC Deadline of this FRIDAY re Debt

Someone just confirmed that there is a DNC deadline of this Friday for wiping out Hillary’s campaign debt you guys.

If we don’t get this taken care of by then they’ll use this to pressure Hillary re keeping her name off the ballot in Denver. That means no real Roll Call vote!

NO WONDER BHO’s donors dragged their feet in helping to wipe out this debt. DAMMIT all they had to do is sit on their hands and the DNC would finish this off by ending all hope of an open and honest vote in Denver. It’s just like the revote in Michigan.

So here’s the deal - we need to GIVE UNTIL IT HURTS on Thursday and Friday. Take care of the last of that debt and tell Howard, Nancy and Donna (ESPECIALLY Donna!) go get stuffed.

Why won’t these stupid losers back off? I don’t know about you, but I’m getting sick and tired of the permutations this WWTSBQ routine has taken. We’ll get her debt paid off and they know it. They aren’t worried about her vendors. They’re just looking for anything they can use to lever her out of the convention in Denver.

And we’re looking for anything we can use to lever her right back in. So for the next 48 hours The Confluence and all members of the Just Say No Deal coalition will participate in the “I dumped the “star” - 5BUX in the next 48” fundraising drive.

We know that fundraising has been the critical issue this primary season. That Super Delegates were swayed by Obama’s magic bucket of money. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could prove that Hillary is a competitive fundraiser even when she’s stopped campaigning?

Let’s get this debt issue behind us. Then it will be a lot easier to move on to the REALLY important task of convincing Super Delegates that Hillary is the winning candidate NOT Barack Obama.

[UPDATE] I’ve heard a rumor that a $50 contribution can get you a tee-shirt (that link should take you to that promotion).

[UPDATE II] Heidi Li has up-to-date information straight from the campaign!

[UPDATE III] From JustSayNo.Com:

Clinton Donation Link temporarily disabled due to hi-volume…
Keep trying!

Stop Losses are Essential, But do you Apply Them Correctly?

Posted: 10 Jul 2008 01:13 AM CDT

In all of your share trading using a stop loss is vital to help you manage your risk while at the same time it is protecting your trading capital.

It is essential that you know how to apply a stop loss, for if you make it too tight a slight turn in the market will see your stock sold. Whilst on the other side of the coin if the stop loss is too wide you may lose more than is really necessary.

Here is a handy guideline which will help you to set your stop loss at the correct level.

To calculate the stop loss position you need to look at the Daily Price Range of your stock for the last five days.

Here is an example :-

The price range was between

Day 1. $25.00 and $26.00 = $1.00
Day 2. $26.50 and $27.00 = .50
Day 3. $27.00 and $25.50 = $1.50
Day 4. $25.00 and $27.00 = $2.00
Day 5. $27.00 and $26.00 = $1.00

ADD up the total =$6..00

Divide this total by 5 (Days) =$1.20

So the average daily price range is $1.20.

So you place your stop loss $1.20 from the most recent closing price.

Some traders prefer to use a percentage such as 5% of the total capital invested. i.e.$100,000 capital = $5,000.While others prefer a lesser % figure. Really its up to you to decide.

There are no hard and fast rules, but it is vital that you use some sort of protection to save your trading capital from vanishing.

The stop loss does just that.

Happy safe trading.

IAG Cuts: Market Unimpressed.

Posted: 09 Jul 2008 11:45 PM CDT

Insurance Australia Group CEO Mike Wilkins unveiled his much-anticipated strategic review yesterday and it followed the predictable script.

Big cuts, cost savings, job losses, exiting a business bought by the old CEO and a burst in initial enthusiasm from punters in the market, only for the surge to flag as second and more rational analysis set in.

As is typical in these situations, the new CEO indirectly blamed his predecessor for the problems by cutting the value of IAG's struggling UK operations by $350 million and scaling back their future operations.

The Wilkins changes were sweeping: four members of the senior management team are out, including long-serving finance director George Vernardos. All joining former CEO, Michael Hawker in the departure lounge.

The new guard includes two former Promina colleagues of Wilkins, Duncan West who will run CGU and Leona Murphy who will run a slimmed down corporate office.

Job losses were put at 600 here and in the UK. Wilkins claimed there would $130 million in annual costs savings and a $60 million restructuring charge on the way out.

The bottom line is a loss for the year to June.

The shares bounced to $3.75 in an early burst of applause, and sagged to a low of $3.57 before trading unchanged on the day at $3.66, down a cent. That’s hardly a ringing endorsement on a day when the market bravely rose in the face of some difficult news.

Perhaps it was news of the year’s loss, or was it the more intelligent investor realising that for all the problems in the UK (bad floods last year caused it havoc) and in Australia bad weather caused havoc here as well, IAG is like all insurers the world over: the insurance cycle is trending lower and even the very smart folk at Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway insurance and re-insurance companies have been caught by the down leg of the cycle.

The credit crunch, plunging share values and volatile market conditions are causing all insurers grief as they struggle to make a turn on their ‘floats’.

The revamp makes James Strong's position as chairman of IAG look tenuous, especially given he's been there for seven years. Seeing Strong has foreshadowed the retirement of two directors at this year's November AGM, in Neil Hamilton and Macquarie executive Rowan Ross, will he join them? After all they have been there from 1999 and 2000 respectively.

The most interesting move (the restructuring was predictable and well-leaked to the market and the media over the past five days) was the appointment of former AMP finance chief, Phil Twyman. He went from the AMP to the global operations of big British insurer Aviva.

IAG will report a loss of up to 15c a share for the June 30 year, the company told the ASX in its statement yesterday.

Second-half dividend will drop to 9c a share, from 16c a year earlier. The full year’s payout will be 22.5c a share compared to 29.5c in 2007.

Wilkins said that as he cuts, the company will continue to pursue growth opportunities in Asia, focusing on Thailand, Malaysia, India and China.

But it will conduct a staged exit of the private motor and mass market distribution operations of Hastings/Advantage and Equity Insurance Brokers and an exit of its Alba and Diagonal investments businesses in the UK.

The decision means the group will book a non-cash impairment charge of around $350 million in fiscal 2008.

“It’s clear from our recent financial performance we need to do better,” chief executive Michael Wilkins said.

He said IAG aimed to have a more tightly-managed portfolio of high performing, customer-focused and diverse general insurance businesses.

It would simplify its operating structure, creating end-to-end businesses with autonomy to manage their own brands, customer bases and markets.

“We’ll also stay focused on the fundamentals of our business in Australia and New Zealand, while continuing to selectively pursue growth opportunities primarily in Asia,” Mr Wilkins said.

The market had been expecting IAG, which earlier this year rejected a takeover approach from QBE Insurance, to announce write-downs from its UK operations; and the cut in final dividend was also forecast.

Mortgage Lenders Make Aussie Coal Stocks Cheaper.

Posted: 09 Jul 2008 11:06 PM CDT

The New Margin of Safety

What do you reckon is more important when buying a stock? Price or value?

It's a loaded question, reader, as you probably already guessed. You need both. The two are separate concepts.

But you can't calculate value without considering price. And in this kind of market, you definitely shouldn't buy the price without figuring out what kind of value it has.

Macquarie Bank, for example, obviously had more price than value. Its price is now lower than it used to be.

Figuring out the value is notoriously difficult. The big cheese of value investing, Benjamin Graham, said to buy companies at prices below their book value, or below their net tangible asset value. He called it the 'margin of safety'.

Safety, because you were literally buying a stock for less than the market value of its assets. With a bit of discretion, that's one of the safest ways to invest.

There are one or two companies we've seen recently that are selling below their book value. AGL Energy (ASX:AGK) used to be, but the market quickly corrected that.

(We like AGL, by the way. It's the cheapest energy retailer going around. There are only two, really.)

Anyway…in a market slump, you might occasionally find value with Graham's book-value method. But other tools will probably help you identify more regular opportunities. One is Return on Equity (RoE).

Return on Equity tells you how well a company has invested cash to make earnings. Simply put, it's the company earnings divided by its equity. It's a bit like looking at the yield on a bond. That way you can get a grip on whether it's overpriced or under priced.

RoE isn't perfect, by the way. Like most ratios it relies on past figures. But it tells us one thing for certain. How much value the market is placing on earnings over different sectors.

We're running a scan of RoE over the entire ASX today. Tomorrow we'll show you which sectors are pulling their weight…and which aren't worth your cash.

US Mortgage Lenders Make Aussie Coal Stocks Cheaper

The Dow Jones fell back to earth yesterday. US stocks los 2.3%. Oil had nothing to do with it this time; it's still US$136 per barrel. And, oddly, the Australian market is following US stocks down as we write. It's opened down 1.6% so far today.

The Dow fell because two government-backed mortgage groups, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, tumbled by 13% and 24% apiece. A derivatives trader downgraded both stocks.

The market is terrified about how bad the mortgage situation is. The two major lenders are now at serious risk of collapse…though we're not convinced the US government would let that happen.

A bail-out may be required. But people could still lose plenty of money on the lenders. And they could fall further on the market. The mortgage black-hole is still vacuuming up bad credit.

Now…do you see why the Aussie market's slump is odd? In a sane world, if Australia has any exposure to Fannie Mae, it'd be the size of a ladybug's thimble.

But our world is not totally sane, we guess. So we're not ruling out any finance companies announcing new exposure to the US mortgage lending fraternity. There's no underestimating the enthusiasm of idiots during a credit boom.

In fact, our colleague Dan Denning wrote to APRA yesterday to ask whether it had any info on the subject. Here's the reply he got:

Hi Dan

Thank you for your enquiry about debt owned by Australian banks.

For all of APRA’s publicly available statistics on Authorised Deposit-taking Institutions (ADIs), please refer to http://www.apra.gov.au/Statistics/ADIs.cfm.

There's not much use in looking at those spreadsheets. There's no column titled "Owns US Mortgage Institutions". The fact is, nobody really knows how much exposure Aussie firms have. We'll probably only ever know if some company announces it.

We do know one thing though…Aussie shares are not as exposed as US stocks. And Aussie stocks get cheaper this morning, reader. There's stupidity in the air.

Ahem. Excuse us…who's driving this market? You have your eyes on the wrong lane.

Take Felix (ASX:FLX). It does not lend to home-owners in America. It digs up black stuff called coal in Australia. There is no direct link between the two. Do not try to find one. Someone should tell this to the investors who are willing to sell it for 3% less this morning.

In fact, in the words of a Citigroup analyst yesterday, "the coking coal market is expected to remain tight for many years".

In the meantime we're keeping our eyes on Energy, Earnings and the Economy. Those three factors will have more bearing on Australian shares in the long-term than Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Consumers are Still Low on Confidence

The Economy: Westpac released its consumer confidence survey yesterday. It's at a 16-year low. That makes sense. It's been about that long since we had a recession. Petrol prices and interest rates are high. Credit is not.

The message here: nothing has really changed in the last month or so.

Banks Raise Mortgage Rates

But if that encourages the RBA to halt its rate cycle, it might not matter. Bankwest raised home loan rates by 0.2% yesterday. Now St George has some company up there. It did the same thing last week. Both banks are nearing double-figure interest rates.

Proyecto Milenio: Imaginando el futuro

Posted: 09 Jul 2008 09:33 AM CDT

ProyectoMilenio

Things That Make You Go WTF?

Posted: 09 Jul 2008 08:22 PM CDT

From Matt Stoller at OpenLeft:

It’s interesting to consider how Clinton would have voted were she the nominee, and there’s no way to know now.  Why did she vote properly this time?  She doesn’t have a strong incentive to vote  either way this time.  She’s going to be a very powerful Senator going forward with a substantial PAC and web operation regardless.  I wonder why she did this.  It’s possible she voted this way to embarrass Obama, though it’s more likely she just believes that this is a bad bill.  Maybe it’s heralding a new Clinton who is less cautious and more willing to fight for liberal principles.

Gee Matt, with punditry like that, you truly deserve a high-paying job alongside MoDo and Bloody Bill Kristol.  I very much want to tell you what I really think of you, but this is a family-blog.  So just think of the most abusive and insulting thing anyone has every said to you, then scream it at your reflection in the mirror while pelting yourself with rotting fruit and animal feces.

Stoller is a prime example of Obot illogic and the poster child for the dangers of kool-aid addiction.  Rather than simply give a tip of the hat to Hillary for her vote on the FISA bill today, Stoller feels the need to speculate as to her motives.  And of course he ignores Occam’s Razor and assumes complicated and corrupt motives on her part.  Finally, at the end of the sixth sentence, he arrives at the obvious and logical answer: Hillary voted against the FISA revision because she thinks it’s a bad bill.

I guess it was too simple.

Stoller exhibits the CDS mindset that saw racism in the words “fairy tale” and nefarious intentions in a comment about RFK’s assassination.  He also is in deep denial and is rationalizing Obama’s yes vote on FISA so as to turn it into some shrewd and necessary political calculation, instead of facing the cold, hard truth: Obama is not the person his supporters think he is.

We really need a 12-Step program for Kool-aid detox.

Dear Donna, if you don’t have time to do it right…

When will you have time to DO IT OVER?

I know you answer email personally, Donna, but for some reason, you did not reply to my invitation to take questions at The Confluence.  No matter, we know the answers to the questions we would have asked because you stupidly told them to the Wall Street Journal and the NYTimes yesterday.  The pre-Convention Obama Haka sounds like this:

The problem is “there’s a strong feeling” that Sen. Clinton’s delegates need the chance to vote for her, Mr. Devine said. Many are still angry with a party decision that they feel deprived her of delegates from Michigan and Florida. “You don’t want a situation where anybody feels they’ve been cheated,” he said.

A second option would be for Sen. Clinton to be nominated, complete with laudatory speeches and happy floor demonstrations. By prearrangement, Sen. Clinton then would take her name out of consideration and endorse Sen. Obama’s nomination.

“There’s nothing symbolically wrong to putting her name in,” followed by a scripted withdrawal, said Ms. Brazile. But the spectacle of a rapturous welcome for Sen. Clinton would be irresistible to television and could embarrass Sen. Obama.

Oh, please.  Nothing could be more embarrassing for Senator Obama than to have his buddies on the Rules and Bylaws committee rig the vote for him so he could slither that last centimeter over the finish line.  How could it be more humiliating than to find that the first African-American to be nominated has to have the caucuses stacked in his favor, the critical mass of two major states withheld from the tally of his opponent and the entire US News media out for blood for Hillary in order to just barely squeak by?  Did I mention all of the superdelegates that had to be threatened with primary challenges, the other superdelegates that were bought off, the power of DFA used as your personal campaign organization outside of the official OBAMA organization and nearly every African-American in the US voting for you?  And with all of that plus the institutional power of the Democratic establishment lining up behind Obama so they can pull his strings after he is in office, he only just *barely* managed to buy his way into the winner’s circle.  Barely.  Because we’re not talking about his qualifications or experience, which is virtually non-existent. I can’t think of anything more embarrassing than having been carried to the nomination on the back of droogs who want to use you.  For sure, no one will ever look at the nomination of Barack Obama and have anyone say he won on his merits.  Doesn’t get any more embarrassing than that.

But I find this passage the funniest:

The Obama campaign said Monday that the Illinois senator would accept the nomination at the 76,000-seat stadium where the Denver Broncos football team plays so that thousands of nondelegates could attend. But the campaign hasn’t settled other key questions about the convention, including whether Sen. Clinton’s name will be put into nomination, said Obama spokesman Bill Burton.

Sen. Clinton’s campaign office didn’t answer emails seeking comment.  Under party rules, Sen. Clinton’s huge delegate count gives her the right to put her name into nomination. “But do you do it?” asked Ms. Brazile.  ”Politically, does it heighten tensions?”

LOLOLOLOL!  {{Catching breath, wiping eyes, clearing throat}}

Donna, Donna, Donna, get your fingers out of your ears and stop singing “la-la-la”.  You cannot force the Democrats to accept this man, I don’t care if you ARE trying to use his candidacy to score points for African-Americans.  This election year wasn’t supposed to be an opportunity to have a teachable moment about race.  This was an election year to wrest control from the Republicans and here you are, making a pact with Nancy “Impeachment-is-off-the-table” Pelosi to hand control over the executive branch over to Congress but, by golly, you’ll have an African-American in the WH.  One who is not prepared, who has no coalitions who he can call on outside the ones who were handed to him and who will be facing a war, a failing economy, health care issues and global warming.  If he doesn’t end up like the failed and equally unprepared Deval Patrick, we will be lucky.  You would have been better off recommending him for VP and letting him learn on the job behind a much more experienced nominee.  Instead, you may set back progress by decades.

But the thing I want to point out to you, Donna, you dumb@$$, is that a floor fight, complete with “heightened political tensions
